Poll question: How Many Hours Per Week Do You Estimate That You Spend Posting and/or Reading on DU?
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 11:35 PM by Emit
Contrary to what my husband says, I do not spend 100 hours or more per week posting and reading on DU, or at least I don't think I do. I'm curious how many hours other DUers spend, or think they spend, posting or reading on DU, specifically (not on line, in general). Comments are welcome, of course. :hi:

1. Usually, an hour or two. This week, lots.
I was in the hospital recently with a bag of antibiotics stuck in my arm to cure a case of cellulitis. I had a laptop, a public internet portal, and a lot of free time.

I'm home now, but still not doing much, so I'm posting on DU more.

Are you okay now?

Sick days are my favorite time to post on DU ~ I feel less guilty and I don't have to get dressed in the morning, lol.

13. Oh, things are doing well now
Cellulitis ls mean-looking, but antibiotics kill it right off. I just have chronic strep and staph from longstanding ear and sinus damage. I actually seldom get ear/sinus infections these days, and the cellulitis probably developed as a response to my increasing the vigor of my fitness program, combined by a small callous split on my heel.

Of course, no visit to the hospital is complete without a brush with death. My meds were incorrectly recorded and I was not given my alpha/beta-blocker meds; I have some weird kind of neurologically-triggered high blood pressure and need to take alpha and beta blockers. After 55+ hours, I went into an hypertensive crisis. My good fortune is that I am in otherwise excellent cardiovascular health and didn't have much of a problem. It felt awful, of course, but that part didn't last too long, especially after I asked the nurse "who do I have to SUE to get my meds?"

I used to work for hospitals back in the 1980s and 1990s, and they were having problems even then. These days, I consider them to be death traps. In my past 4 visits, all for rather trivial problems, I have endured THREE significant drug foul-ups. The technical and nursing staff is seriously overworked (4 nurses for 45 patients, including at least 5 demented/retarded/traumatic brain injury patients the night I was there) and are now required to do physicians' work in many cases.

Health care reform can't come fast enough!

2. My dear Emit!
Heck, I LIVE on DU!

Many, many hours here, all through the day, and after dinner, well into the evening!

And I've been doing this since 2005!

I have many friends here, and I love being here so I can talk with them!

7. I feel like I live here, too, CaliforniaPeggy!
But with three kids ~ one just in college and the other two in elementary ~ and working part-time to three quarter time per week, I know I can't be here all the time, as hubby suggests. :D (truth be told, I log on at work some days just to read up a bit).

It's a great resource with lots of shared ideas, thoughts and info that I value a great deal.

I missed it when I was away for a few months ~ had to take a break for personal reasons and only checked in sporadically ... stopped posting even, for a bit. But, couldn't stay away. :hi:

Then we won't know!

The question will remain Unknown!

4. DU is a great place to get information

Most of the time I just skim over the top stories and read some of the threads. However during the campaign I spent hours here every day. Over the weekend with the big HCR bill, I would guess I spent several hours here too.

6. You mean my "paid for posting" hours, my free time hours, or both combined?
