Los of discussion on one of my local NPR stations about the health care bill this AM - |
|
for example - kooky roberts interviewing Sen. Judd Gregg asking what the senate republics were going to do to weaken or block the bill in the upcoming reconciliation debate/vote.
Lots of focus on the republics and their continued efforts to undermine and roll back health insurance reform (something that has not even been signed into law yet). No reporting on the details of the bill and what it will mean to millions of Americans.
Pitiful schilling.

1. That Cokie Roberts is even allowed on the air is a disgrace in and of |
|
itself.
Arguably the worst "journalist" NPR has ever had and certainly the most over-rated.

2. There Was A Time She Was Good... |
|
It's nearly 40 years in her rear view mirror...when she and NPR were starting out and did some of the best reporting on Nixon during the Watergate days...but she's gone downhill ever since.
No surprise the spin is about "killing reconciliation" or whatever bloodsport is the drinkie-drinkie party topic. The beltway pundits don't like that this bill passed after they deemed it dead and aren't about to admit they were wrong.

4. Yes. There's some high-level pouting going on inside the Beltway |
|
after Sunday evening's vote.
It's their only option at this point, having had their tushes whomped by Nancy Pelosi. But the tea bagger types, at least most of them, seem unlikely to me to know what "reconciliation" is, or how it applies to their having lost this vote.
"...or whatever bloodsport is the drinkie-drinkie party topic." Exactly.

7. The Ignorance Is Amazing... |
|
I saw a "friend" on Facebook moaning about "Obamacare" and how we're all going to hell with "socialized medicine" and every talking point under the sun. Sad truth is she has no clue as to how she already will benefit from this bill...with two kids to insure and she and her husband barely making ends meet. They are having to sell their home to squeeze a little more out of their shrinking paychecks and yet they are clueless as to how their rushpublican overlords have played them like violins and still are. So be it. I'm enjoying the "poutrage" as I know within a year they'll be lining up for subsidies and other perks of this legislation. I've given up trying to reason...you just can't discuss with the blissfully stupid.
The pundits were shown up...I give Speak Pelosi much of the credit for resurrecting the bill and seeing it through...a feat that not only was historic in how this thing happened but also worked to unite a divided Democratic party on the issue. I don't feel as confident about Reid and my hopes are the House deal (which Reid had to get 50 signatures on a letter) is so set in stone he can't screw it up.
Cheers...

8. Your illustrate well, how poorly the media is serving us. We should ALL KNOW |
|
what is in the new legislation, and how it will benefit us, and the insurance companies for that matter. The media should be helping us to understand in great and minute detail how the bill will impact our lives.
Instead they focus on the political stuntery and the tea bags. They give the republics a platform from which to spew their idiocy. Possibly because it is good theater, but just as possibly because the media is a right wing tool.
kooky roberts and the media in general have failed. They have failed to do their jobs. They have failed to provide information and they have failed to report on policies and processes that impact our lives. The media, to whom we subscribe and pay our meager earnings in exchange for their services, simply fail to deliver.

5. I often get the feeling that she and her husband never left high school, |
|
that they are still an "item," a social construction, and that they show up for Beltway lunches with people who worked for Nixon and Reagan and both Bushes.
I haven't heard an insightful comment by Cokie Roberts on any topic whatsoever for a long long time.
