Bush Vetoes Bill To Bring Troops Home from Iraq
That's how HuffPo has the headline (something like it) for this story:

Democrats Send Iraq Timeline to Bush

WASHINGTON — Democratic congressional leaders on Tuesday sent Iraq legislation setting timetables for U.S. troop withdrawals to President Bush and a certain veto.

On the fourth anniversary of the president's "Mission Accomplished" speech, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that Bush "has put our troops in the middle of a civil war. A change of course is needed."

Bush, meeting in Florida with military commanders, said such an approach could turn Iraq into a "cauldron of chaos."

The White House said the president would veto the bill on his return to the White House and then go before television cameras at 6:10 p.m. EDT, just before the evening news shows, to make a statement.

"Success in Iraq is critical to the security of free people everywhere," Bush said at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., the headquarters of U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, including Iraq

7. Oh well, that's that. I guess Congress has to move on to other business now.
Raising the minimum wage, drug negotiations for Medicare, cutting interest rates for student loans and implementing the 9/11 Commission report recommendations.

So now that Bush has vetoed a bill to fund his own war, and with Congress not having the votes to override him, we can move on to other things.

9. Amy Goodman (DN!) described these as "non-binding timetables".
Is that true? Were the timetables in this legislation non-binding? If they were I don't know who I'm angrier with: the Dems for making them non-binding, or Bush** for having the living gall to veto fucking non-binding timetables.

10. Did I just hear him say that General Petraeus had asked for the
additional troops, as in troop surge? I thought the surge was announced before Petraeus took command. Does anyone know if he was involved in the increase in troop numbers.
