Whistle-Blower: Banks Give Homeowners the Runaround

800-Numbers Lead to Runaround as Banks Refuse to Modify Mortgages

A vice president for one of the nation's biggest banks claims customers looking for help in lowering their mortgage payments are often told to call an 800 number -- where he says representatives then give homeowners the runaround.

(snip)

The banker described homeowners pleading to him for help, but he said his bank is not interested in modifying mortgages, even after taxpayers helped bail out the nation's biggest banks.

"It's just not happening," said the banker.

The banker said there is significant pressure on bank employees to get customers to take on more accounts than they need because of the late fees and penalty fees that will then come from those accounts.

4. Of course not
Typically those I know on the right (Libertarian, Republican, Tea Partier, whatever...) would say if one cannot afford the home they deserve to lose it. So if you lose your job, it's your fault, lose your home, your fault, lose you health care, your fault.

Lovely people really.

6. doubt any knowledgeable Wachovia customers are libertarians:
no FDIC? let the private market put your savings account into the CEOs' pockets, since the free market is God. besides, if you don't want to put money in banks, put it in your mattress in your fortress-home/survivalist compound with the blast doors and machine gun emplacements (yes, libertarians think this way).

5. If you are one of these homeowners
1. Go to the Making Home Affordable website and fill out and return the paperwork. Today.

www.makinghomeaffordable.org

If you have already filled out the paperwork -- there is an "emergency" number in the top right hand of the website. Call them. Today.

2. Call your Senator. Today.

We are exceedingly lucky that Senator Murray's office has a person deputized to handle nothing but Making Home Affordable applicants from her constituency.

If you want the loan modification, the steps above are the only way you will get through the process. After all, when the CEO of our mortgage company got a phone call from Patty Murray's office, we received our paperwork less than two weeks later.

Good luck, and remember, only the persistent will prevail.
