2010 Census Participation Rates - How is your community doing?
Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 06:04 PM by cynatnite
Check how your community stacks up to the rest of the country. My community is WAY below the national average. No surprise.

3. Illinois 21% (above average)
Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 06:14 PM by frazzled
We have a ways to get up to the 73% rate from 2000, but I assume we'll get there.

On edit: Cook County is only doing 15% right now. C'mon Chicagoans, the mail isn't THAT bad here.

5. We just got our Census form yesterday
If the rest of our community only just got theirs, participation will be low so far. Yep - the Census map shows 0% participation for my county.

14. Is anyone against filling out the Census?
I have a regular listener who is very set on not doing it, and no matter what facts he gets, he refuses for "personal reasons". I have done all I can to convince him and even gone to the Census Bureau to try and schedule someone to talk about it. I just wonder how many other progressives are going to be like this guy who on every other issue is very progressive.

16. My state is 13%, my county is 9%.
Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 07:45 PM by LWolf
I haven't opened my letter yet, myself. I'll get to it this week while I'm on break.

Edited to add: my mom, age 71, is working for the Census, knocking on doors and leaving information for rural neighborhoods whose mailboxes are a long way from their residences. She got bit by a dog yesterday when she approached a house to leave the letter.

17. Interesting
I live in Delaware. We only have three counties that get more conservative as you go south.

New Castle County most liberal = 12%
Kent in the middle = 14%
Sussex is mostly republican = 17%

Sussex is where that Tea Bagger tape of them yelling at Rep. Castle(R) at a Town Hall was taken several months ago.
I guess our conservatives don't want to lose any dollars.

21. So far, about 16% of the people in my Zip Code have done it. That's the national and state averages
in current responses.

That puts us on track to duplicate the 72% from 2000 when all forms are delivered.
