Who's palling around with terrorists now?

Digby and Turkana note Sarah Palin's most recent utterance on Twitter:

Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: "Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!" Pls see my Facebook page.

Reload? Really?

Of all the images to convey about her movement, it is revealing that Sarah Palin chose one associated with violence. Palin's rhetoric comes amidst a surge in right-wing extremism, a time during which she should be urging cooler heads to prevail instead of fueling the most radical elements of her base.

Remember, just a few weeks ago, an anti-tax radical launched a suicide plane attack on an IRS building in Texas. Over the past few days, anti-reform thugs have vandalized Democratic Party headquarters in several states in retribution for the passage of health care reform.

And now, today, just hours after teapartiers posted the home address of Democratic Congressman Tom Periello's brother and told people to "stop by," authorities found a severed gas line running to the home. No matter that the tea party people mistakenly targeted the congressman's brother instead of the congressman himself, their goal was clear -- to influence the political process through the threat of violence.

That's not just way over the line, that's terrorism. And I don't care how much money Sarah Palin might want to make off her political celebrity, if she were the patriot she claims to be, she'd be doing everything in her power to rein in the rising tide of right-wing extremism.

Update (11:40AM): Several commenters point out that Palin's Facebook posted features more violent imagery: a map with gunsites marking the Democratic seats she's "targeting" for GOP takeover (including Periello's). Here's the image:

7. Reconstruction Redux
Reconstruction Redux

Wed Mar 24, 2010

We won. However, I predict that in a few years, the hatred, the need to feel superior, the unconscious and conscious racism that still exists in this country will dominate again. The backlash against black people, brown people, liberals, GLBT communities, will build on itself and many of the gains that we have made in recent years will be challenged and there will be attempts to obliterate them by those we call Republicans today.

I believe that their "purging" of their party for purity, is really about forming a white supremacist party to restore the dominance of white people over the growing numbers of people of color in this country. One seldom sees black republicans these days, except for the cats paws and shills, operating out of pure, cynical self interest and internalized racism. We had blacks that fought on the side of the Confederacy, too.

When I hear Lindsay Graham, Pat Buchanan, Mark Sanford, Sarah Palin, John McCain, Joe Wilson, and their ilk speak, I hear the Confederacy echo in their voices. When I see some on the left, join gleefully in trashing this President and join forces with those who hate him on the right, I see the prioritizing of personal agendas, over the welfare of those who are really hurting and could benefit from some of the crumbs in this health bill. Just kill it, they say. What they really mean, is kill THEM.

I also don't think that President Obama truly understood until recently, how much they hate him. I have encountered people who were raised and beloved in families who really cannot grasp that there will be some people in their lives who will hate them, the air they breathe, the ground they walk on, simply because of the color of their skin.

11. Exactly
I doubt Lincoln would recognize today's Republican Party.

I'm pretty sure he would be a member of our party.

19. The Rage Is Not About Health Care
By FRANK RICH
Published: March 27, 2010

THERE were times when last Sunday’s great G.O.P. health care implosion threatened to bring the thrill back to reality television. On ABC’s “This Week,” a frothing and filibustering Karl Rove all but lost it in a debate with the Obama strategist David Plouffe. A few hours later, the perennially copper-faced Republican leader John Boehner revved up his “Hell no, you can’t!” incantation in the House chamber — instant fodder for a new viral video remixing his rap with will.i.am’s “Yes, we can!” classic from the campaign. Boehner, having previously likened the health care bill to Armageddon, was now so apoplectic you had to wonder if he had just discovered one of its more obscure revenue-generating provisions, a tax on indoor tanning salons.

But the laughs evaporated soon enough. There’s nothing entertaining about watching goons hurl venomous slurs at congressmen like the civil rights hero John Lewis and the openly gay Barney Frank. And as the week dragged on, and reports of death threats and vandalism stretched from Arizona to Kansas to upstate New York, the F.B.I. and the local police had to get into the act to protect members of Congress and their families.

How curious that a mob fond of likening President Obama to Hitler knows so little about history that it doesn’t recognize its own small-scale mimicry of Kristallnacht. The weapon of choice for vigilante violence at Congressional offices has been a brick hurled through a window. So far.

No less curious is how disproportionate this red-hot anger is to its proximate cause. The historic Obama-Pelosi health care victory is a big deal, all right, so much so it doesn’t need Joe Biden’s adjective to hype it. But the bill does not erect a huge New Deal-Great Society-style government program. In lieu of a public option, it delivers 32 million newly insured Americans to private insurers. As no less a conservative authority than The Wall Street Journal editorial page observed last week, the bill’s prototype is the health care legislation Mitt Romney signed into law in Massachusetts. It contains what used to be considered Republican ideas.

Yet it’s this bill that inspired G.O.P. congressmen on the House floor to egg on disruptive protesters even as they were being evicted from the gallery by the Capitol Police last Sunday. It’s this bill that prompted a congressman to shout “baby killer” at Bart Stupak, a staunch anti-abortion Democrat. It’s this bill that drove a demonstrator to spit on Emanuel Cleaver, a black representative from Missouri. And it’s this “middle-of-the-road” bill, as Obama accurately calls it, that has incited an unglued firestorm of homicidal rhetoric, from “Kill the bill!” to Sarah Palin’s cry for her followers to “reload.” At least four of the House members hit with death threats or vandalism are among the 20 political targets Palin marks with rifle crosshairs on a map on her Facebook page.

21. Words have consequences
Sarah Palin and the 10,000 desert dimwits at " Conservatives Woodstock"

March 27, Tim McCown

Words have consequences. Before I reached my 19th birthday JFK, his brother RFK and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had all been assassinated. There is plenty of room for dissent in this nation. It is what this nation was founded upon. But there should be no tolerance for calls to violence against those you disagree with. That is what they do dictatorships.

Like it or not because what those in your movement do is done in all of your names, here is the pathetic stupid crap your movement stands for. Racial epithets, death threats, broken windows, nooses faxed to Congressmen James Claiborne D-SC and Bart Stupak D- MI. A gas line sabotaged at the home of the brother of Rep.Tom Perriello D- Va. after it was posted on line by a local Tea Party Movement group.

The racist, bigoted moronics would be bad enough but protesters showed up at Rep. Russ Carnahan's home with a coffin. Rep. Betsy Markey D-Co. recieved two threatening phone calls. One caller said, " Better hope I don't run into you in a dark alley with a knife, a club, or a gun." another said, " Better tell your boss that she better be careful when she comes back to Colorado.

A Nashville man was the victim of road rage because he had an Obama bumper sticker on his car. Rep. Vic Snyder D-Az. recieved a letter that read, " Militia control has selected you for assassination."

I realize all of you Right Wingers feel far safer in a dictatorship like we had 8 years of under George Bush. And you find it frightening discovering that a majority of America doesn't see the world through paranoid glasses. We had free elections and even though Obama isn't doing what I think he should, I will work to change things through constructive non violence and refusing compliance.
