Edited on Tue May-01-07 06:40 PM by itsrobert
We all know that Rush is a racist. But does that make his audience racist too?

2. I don't think you can catch it simply by listening to the blowhard piece of shit...
...but if you think he's got anything but bullshit to say, you might believe some of the racist shit he spews.

3. Um, does listening to a racist make one racist? I postulate his audience listens Because it supports
and encourages their worst instincts, of which racism is just one. MKJ

5. Maybe. If you listen to Rush and aren't a racist, then you're a masochist
Because I don't know any decent person who can listen to his bigoted crap without feeling pain on behalf of those he's insulting.

6. Closet racists
I'm guessing there are a lot of people who listen who would never admit or actively promote racism or bigotry, but are amused by what they hear. I don't think anyone who is NOT a racists could stand to listen to him.

12. Bad Analogies...
He does not promote being a junkie.
He does not promote being fat.
He does not promote not being able to keep a woman.

HE DOES promote racism.

but not necessarily automatically racist.

But his listeners are almost definitely immature and incapable of rational and independent thought and are easily swayed by propaganda.

14. There are not two sides to some things.
There's not two sides to racism.
There's not two sides to misogyny.
There is not two sides to homophobia.
There is not two sides to the war.
There's not two sides to a lot of things.

He is simply a foul human and you couldn't pay me to listen to him.

I wasn't criticizing you. That's actually something I think about. The "two sides" people say there always are. I guess there are two sides. ...but the Rush side is wrong and Evil.

I've known a few liberals who listened to him JUST to get angry. JUST so they could write about how stupid he is and how much they hate him. ...but my nerves and my heart and my stomach can't take him. I have enough trouble staying calm on this board with people who mostly think the way I think...<g>

17. I listen occasionally because Oxycontin Rush is the harbinger of the radical right
In other words, for the instructive value of what the right wing media spin machine has puked up each day for their sycophants.

20. Considering that most talk radio stations in the South and
mid-West carry Rush, one sometimes has to listen to him - like it or not - just to get local and national updates in the car.

I know I have to and it's yucky - but I need traffic reports and weather. Sigh.

23. Mostly
They are not rich Republicans, they are blue collar whites who fall for that divide and conquer strategy regarding labor - the black, the hispanic, whoever else, are taking "their" jobs.

Rush and his whining about political correctness show it - they wish they could say racist things without being called on it or opposed. That's why they find PC so "oppressive."

24. It's probably best to quote Dennis Miller on this one...
Limbaugh articulates the blindingly white anger of every short-sleeved Wal-mart assistant manager in America who's outraged because a black kid called him by his first name.
