The Discovery Channel hires Sarah Palin, $1Mill per show.
Today, I called the Discovery Corp. (212) 548 5555, and confirmed that they have indeed hired Sarah Palin to host a Reality Show. Although the person I spoke to was sketchy about the details, the fact that she sought, and will receive $1,000,000.00 per show, if not more, says volumes about the company.

I left a detailed message, complaining about her recent tweet, and her latest web page (I refuse to post it here, for fear that the hits might increase her exposure). The tweet?

"Don't retreat. RELOAD"

The website? It has shooter's targets added to the congressional districts that voted for her and her vice president, John McCain, but elected a democrat.
Target practice?
Yup.

This is not rhetorical excess. This is a call to shoot people. With the sabotage of one family's gas line into their home, with threats to assassinate the children of House members who voted for the HCR bill, we have to call this what it is. Political terror. The Tea Baggers need to be shown a thing or two about the rule of law, including seeing indictments, convictions and prison sentences.

No more hands off, polite discourse with these folks. They are seeking blood. We need to stand up and stop them. The first, best way to do that is to have Discovery cancel their contract with Palin.

Pity. They did have some good programming.

The page is very slow but eventually does open.

Here's what I wrote:

I am appalled that you will pay Sarah Palin $1 million per episode for a reality show. First of all, there is nothing REAL about this woman. Secondly, she has incited violence with her RELOAD comments. Her ethics in office and her "private" family life are disgraceful. Shame on you, Discovery Channel, I thought you had more scruples that this.

And this should officially signal the end of her political aspirations. She'll never recover from teh stupid about to be on display if she's in a reality TV show.

28. I just posted something similar elsewhere - completely agree
Given what Sarah Palin just did with her inciteful target list language/rifle crosshair visual, she is the last person that Discovery should be hiring to do a series for them.

The ensuing threats, the severed propane line designed to injure or kill that family, etc should be cause for Discovery to immediately disengage from promoting a person like Sarah Palin who is actively trying to incite violence against our Congress, and seek destruction of our system of law and justice by demanding her followers take violent actions against those in office with whom they have a disagreement.

I am emailing Discovery, and I am ceasing to watch it until they are able to rectify the situation in which they've found themselves - in an alliance with a person who is trying to bring down our system of government by inciting others to violence by her very words and with her encouragement. I will be mentioning this to anyone and everyone I know, in an effort to make sure they understand that at this point, the Discovery Channel has taken a mis-step which they need to correct asap, and encourage people to discontinue watching the Discovery channel until the channel extricates themselves from this fiasco.

It is shocking that Sarah Palin is escalating her promotion of violence against sitting Congresspeople; it is more shocking that Discovery seems to be oblivious.

38. I agree with you that this is the stuff of which civil wars are made.
Edited on Wed Mar-24-10 04:53 PM by DeschutesRiver
Did you hear Steny Hoyer's press conference earlier about the threats of violence aimed at congressional democrats? Of all the examples that he could have chosen from, he spoke directly of Sarah Palin's use of inciteful language while promoting her cause, like target list, crosshairs, etc. He didn't mention her by name, but what she did with the target list was one of his prime examples. Her target list language getting that kind of negative, pointed exposure should be all that Discovery needs to hear.

I am only certain of a few things. One is that violence can not be avoided at this point, as the other side has been shaken and stirred into almost insanity over their loss of control. The other is that I will not live in a world controlled by these people, nor be intimidated into not taking a stand. I will do everything in my power to be on the winning side of this thing, as it is a direct attack on my core values, and as such, it must be taken seriously.

I hope that any violence is on their part, not ours, and I hope that this burgeoning civil war can be aborted in the early stages. But that said, I realize that it is whatever it is, and that I will do whatever it takes to be free from their world view for the rest of my days. I have come to realize recently that I have absolutely no compromise in me on this issue. As time goes on, I think others will come to a similar conclusion. That this is also "a big fucking deal."

Watching things unfold now has only added more steel to my spine on this. Not looking forward to how things may go down, but will not shrink from whatever may be required of me. It IS that important.

Putting on blinders does not change them or make them go away.

42. I grew up in the 60s
and I feel like a prisoner who escaped her evil jailers, only to see them spring back up decades later to take me back. I'm not going back to that world without fighting like a wildcat.

I don't know why people put on blinders - maybe it makes them feel safe for a little bit longer. Or it helps them escape the thought of what will happen if these people continue to act on their tea party impulses, without anyone else stepping in to put the brakes on their efforts to retake power and control.

There is a time to recognize the goodness of people, and acknowledge and enjoy it; and there is a time to recognize the evil in people, and do everything you can do to stop it from progressing like a cancer on society.

We are in the latter process, and the injudicious use of blinders will only embolden those with bad intentions. I will not be that kind of enabler of evil.

It took forever for the multiple pages to load, but it was worth it.

Remember that it isn't just Discovery - there are a lot of cable channels associated with them. I told them I've been a loyal viewer of Discovery, Animal Planet and the Travel Channel since they started, and I was blocking all of them from my remote today. It's sad because I love Animal Planet in particular, but to give someone who advocates violence against her political opponents a platform is grossly irresponsible.

73. Palin as a "guide", uh huh...
Discovery Channel paying the brainless Palin a million an episode for her "guide" expertise, give me a break. If the Discovery Channel wanted to do a "nature documentary" with the assistance of a guide, there are many, many actual Alaskan guides who actually have the expertise, expertise Palin totally lacks, they could hire.

Hiring Palin is proof this is the antithesis of a "nature documentary".

62. I don't know why Discovery thought this would be a good idea.
Since most of their viewership probably loathe Palin and everyone like her, even if they haven't really been a science channel in a while. I suppose it's possible their parents never sat them down as children and told them there were different kinds of attention, and not all of it was good. Either way, I'll call them tomorrow and promise that I'll never watch their channel again if they go through with it.

make her look like the bat shit, crazy idiot she really is. I've seen it done a hundred times on reality shows. In fact, the new movement in cable tv is all about schaudefreude. Sign 'em up, make them out to be the hero and them expose them for the hypocrites they really are just to start some buzz and a controversy. Great for ratings.

The TLC Channel has really sunk to an all time low in the last few years. It used to be a pretty good channel to watch great documentaries and informative programming. Now, they're all about sensationalism and ratings.

Does anybody know what conglomerate owns their ass? I wouldn't be surprised if all trails led to rupert murdoch.

is how someone like Sarah Palin is qualified to earn $1 million per episode of a fake TV show.

Tell me these neo-cons with access to the people are not orchestrated by multi-national corporations that have too much influence in this country. This isn't what we want to see--it's what they want us to see. I believe there whole agenda is to divide, and they're doing a damn fine job besides dumbing down some of the populace.

91. My statement to discovery inc
Upon hearing that Sarah (wolf killer) Palin was given a 1,000,000 per show contract, I think you people have lost your minds. You have also lost a viewer. I watch mostly animal planet, planet green, science and nature programming. I will also not buy from any advertisers on this program either. This is the lady with bullseye/crosshairs on her webpage 'targeting' members of our government. I am not to sure about her mental stability, but I surely do know that I do not want impressionable children watching her antics. This is not the kind of person I want influencing my kids for sure, when I try to teach about conservation of our planet and species that share our environment.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,

And my note to TLC-Discovery, whoever the hell they are:

Please note that since you have decided to hire Sarah Palin, the woman who has images of rifle crosshairs on her website and tells her mindless followers not to retreat but reload, I will be joining the millions who will be boycotting your channel. I will find out who the sponsors are and will be writing to them also.In this time of social networking, I think you guys could be toast as a cable empire. This is the woman who shamelessly paraded her family in front of America for political purposes, and then criticized people for making comments she did not like? This woman makes a living off of inciting mobs. She should be charged with sedition. Her language is clearly meant to incite others to seriously consider killing our president. Is this the image you want? Please know that I am a school administrator, and will make sure none of your products, videos, etc. make it into our school. Please don't delude yourself into thinking that by hiring such a controversial person you will be reaping great publicity dividends.
It will make you irrelevant. Shame on you for taking a good channel and making it a maudlin political backstop for your corporate masters. Anything for a buck, eh?

considering that the Iditarod Trail Committee recently got so many complaints about the little blurb she did on TV here advertising the race that they had to pull it and also removed the ad from their website. She is pretty well hated in Alaska. I hope Discovery Channel doesn't think she's representative of our great state.

I certainly won't be watching. In fact, I won't be watching any Discovery programming anymore after hearing this.
I got the impression this would be a nature-themed show but this article does not say that. It is a joke if this show will be nature-oriented. Maybe she can narrate a show where they gun down wolves from helicopters.

During the campaign she said real Americans live in small towns and that stuck with me ever since. Evidently, according to her, those of us who live in big cities are not real Americans. She can blow it out her ass.
