Thank You Lyric for your Mail Carrier Post
Your post brought tears to my eyes because before my Dad passed on, he worked for the Post Office for 30 years, back when there were no mail trucks and the mail route was walked every day, no matter how hot is was or cold and snowy. He would have done all of those things you mentioned and then some. He even saved a little girl once from a dog who was attacking her and got bit himself. It is rare for Postal People to get praise and more often than not, the complaints are frivilous. I enjoyed your post so much that still being in touch with the current Post Master of the office where my Dad retired, I took the liberty of cutting and pasting it, then emailing it so he could read it. I did not name an forums or offer him your DU screen name to protect your privacy and the privacy of DU but I can assure you that your post will be passed around to every Post Master he knows and probably be sent right on up the line to the US Office. Thank you again. It was one of the nicest posts I have seen on DU in a long time.

2. :-)
It was one of the loveliest posts in a long time.

I think I may do the same, send it to the various offices in the town close to where I live.

Out here in the boonies our postmistress (I think that is what they call her) knows all of us even though that is not too many and hers is the only office in the tiny village. She closes the office at noon and then delivers. She calls when something is coming and will drive all the way up our 1/4 mile drive to bring packages to us. She is just lovely. No walking because of the distances but still very personal service.

FedEx drops our boxes over the fence into the tall grass and we have to search when expecting something. I found my clarinet delivered in the rain tossed over the fence. UPS is good but USPS is the best taking the time to find us, even driving up to our barn if we are not home.

I am a big fan of the US Postal service, mostly because of the carriers that do such a wonderful job. Always above and beyond what is really expected of them.

3. You are very welcome!
I was very touched by what I saw today, and wanted to pass it on just in case there are mail carrier DU'ers. They need to know that people notice these things and appreciate them. I'm glad your Dad was able to help other people in the same way, and your post made *me* tear up too.

4. Why don't you send the link of the post?
DU is a public forum and no privacy will be violated. They would appreciate the entire thread I think. Lots of stories of people bragging about their mailperson.

5. Didn't seem like the right thing to do
as well, some Post Office employees are Republicans. If they knew where the post was, they may not click on a link to read it and I wanted as many to read it as possible.
