Tier 5 Unemployment Extension
Just so people are made aware of what Congress isn't doing right now and should be. Just pushing back the dates for eligibility isn't addressing the issue of the long-term unemployed who can't find jobs and risk being homeless:

There has been quite a bit of confusion regarding extended unemployment benefits. The current extended unemployment compensation provides unemployment benefits for 4 tiers of unemployed workers.

The extensions do not provide any additional (new) weeks of unemployment benefits for the long term unemployed.

For example, in New York unemployed workers are currently eligible for 26 weeks of state unemployment, 53 weeks of Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) emergency benefits, and 20 weeks of Extended Benefits (EB) extended benefits. The current unemployment extensions would not add any weeks for those unemployed workers who are going to run out of all unemployment benefits.

1. Thanks for pointing that out
The bill only insures funding through December. Congress also should have added more weeks. Lots of spooked jobless people out here, including me.

2. It's truly terrifying
I am planning to move out of Reno by mid-April. I can no longer pay the rent down there plus those outrageous utilities.

I'll stay with family for awhile, and then try to go into some kind of retraining program.

4. Here's more, and Congress still isn't doing anywhere near enough.
I probably will lose Tier IV eligibility in May because of this shit:

Senate Democrats will try to clear short-term extensions of several federal programs on Thursday, including unemployment benefits, but it’s still unclear whether they will be able to do so quickly.

Discussions are under way to determine whether Republicans will object and whether that objection could be remedied by a time agreement between party leaders about votes on amendments, according to a Senate GOP leadership aide.

Legislation passed by voice vote in the House on March 17 would extend long-term unemployment benefits, COBRA health insurance subsidies for jobless workers and higher payments for physicians who treat Medicare patients — a provision known as the “doc fix.” The bill also would extend a national flood insurance program, satellite television transmission laws and the use of 2009 poverty guidelines for federal programs.
