11. Damn they are at it again.
They don't care if it's a lie. They want it to get out in the news, because once it's disproved, the damage has already been done and there will be that segment of the brain weak population who will believe it no matter what and forever.

17. Um, the police report seems to support Cantor's story.
http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/richmond-police-statement-on-cantor-office-vandalism.php?

The Richmond Police Department is investigating an act of vandalism at the Reagan Building, 25 E. Main St., Richmond, Virginia. A first floor window was struck by a bullet at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23. The building, which has several tenants including an office used by Congressman Eric Cantor, was unoccupied at the time.

A Richmond Police detective was assigned to the case. A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman.

I was going to grant him some poetic license for exaggeration anyway, but yes, someone did shoot a hole in a window of a room he sometimes uses.

I still won't excuse him for minimizing the implied threat of such actions, nor for using this as...wait for it...a political weapon.

21. Well, somebody shot a bullet UP INTO THE AIR, and then it came down through
sheer happenstance into his window.

To equate this with an attack ON HIM requires an ego and inflated sense of self-importance bordering on the pathological.

28. okay I'll bite
How does something that is falling vertically hit a vertical window? Wouldn't the bullet have to be travelling horizontally to actually hit and shatter an office window?

29. "up into the air" does not necessarily imply that it was perfectly vertical
The police report describes it as traveling in a "downward direction" which I would assume to mean an angle of more than 45 degrees with the horizontal.

The bullet hit the ground 1 foot inside the window, so it doesn't appear to have had a very great horizontal velocity when it hit.

23. You can't deliberately shoot out someone's window by firing into the air.
This was a random event that Cantor's capitalizing upon.

25. Oh, Cantor's capitalizing on it, all right.
But I think that only the police report makes it clear that this wasn't a deliberate act of terror. For the first few days after the discovery, I imagine that any staffers who use the building were concerned, and rightly so.

Cantor's presumably uninvolved enough with actual work that he would only have remembered "bullet" and "my office" from an e-mail one of his peons sent him. He's either conjuring up a left-wing conspiracy against him, or minimizing the real threats that Dems are receiving. Either way works for him.

20. So, let me get this straight -
a gunshot was heard somewhere near the office of some dude who is a hired independent consultant to the Cantor campaign -and that is exactly equivalent to Democratic representatives being telephoned with death threats against them and their families, bricks with notes attached complaining about votes on HCR being thrown through windows, gas lines at homes of family members being severed, envelopes of unknown and potentially deadly white powder being sent to offices of Democratic officials, and all the other myriad terrorist tactics being carried out BY RWERS in an effort to force a change in public policy?? They are the same? REALLY????

27. U.S. Congressman Cantor: I've been threatened because I'm Jewish
U.S. Congressman Eric Cantor said Thursday that he believed many of the threats leveled against him since he assumed office may be in part to the fact that he is Jewish.

"There's been a lot of reports of threats and the potential for violence against members of Congress," said Cantor, who is the only Jewish Republican Congressman and serves as the minority whip in the House.

31. I'm still waiting to see his evidence for such a claim.
I heard Rep. Issa this morning on CNN state that Cantor had his office shot at, and neither news anchor helped him clarify by mentioning
the police report. Big shock, right?
