Kan. Dash Cam Records Cops' Racists Remarks After Stop

OLATHE, Kan. --

A man wanting to contest a traffic ticket says he discovered some questionable comments about his race on a dashboard camera video after a traffic stop last month.

Josh Sims, 22, was pulled over for a traffic violation in February. Sims said he wanted to contest the ticket and ordered a copy of the dash cam video. On that video, Sims said he discovered the questionable conversation that occurred between a female officer in training and her male partner.

"I cooperated and everything and for them to say that after I'd pulled off is just like, wow," Sims said.

Parts of the conversation on the tape are difficult to decipher, but a few comments stand out.

"I think he's just a good basketball player," the male officer said.

"Gotcha fooled, huh?" the female officer said.

"Awful lot of black folks tonight. Typical behavior," the male officer said.

"You can't even tell they're black," the female officer said.

Sims said he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"Yeah, it does hurt, cause it's just over a ticket," Sims said.

Olathe police say they've just been made aware of the situation and have launched an investigation.

"Olathe police, in no way, shape, or form condone racial profiling as a legitimate practice," Olathe police Sgt. John Roland said.

2. The best thing any person of color can say for themselves is, "I'm not in Kansas anymore." nt

3. It's a shame what passes for journalism these days.
I need to ask the obvious question: How does the quoted, four-line conversation have anything to do with the speeding ticket situation?
