Convicted high-ranking officials include a circuit court judge, county clerk and school superintendent
Each face up to 20 years in broad conspiracy that included manipulation of electronic voting machines...

All eight defendants in Clay County, Kentucky's election fraud trial have been found guilty today by a federal jury. Six of those eight were high-ranking election officials, including the county clerk, a circuit judge and the school superintendent. The conspirators were charged with having manipulated elections in 2002, 2004 and 2006 by buying and selling votes and manipulating electronic voting machines...

6. What worries me the most is that rednecks can manipulate the voting process so easily.
It is hard to know what election over the last few years has not been rigged by these machines.

Good job Brad

39. It's always been that easy
If anything, it was easier in the days before voting machines. It's pretty easy to get appointed to these types of positions. Generally there's not too many people who want to do it. The work is monotonous, it generally pays poorly or not at all, and there's not really any political points you can score by doing the job. As a result, you'll find a lot of political zealots doing the job in many places. At many poling locations, you'll have volunteers from both major parties that monitor the integrity of the ballot counting process just to keep cockroaches like these honest.

13. Please K&R this, guys, because...
This breaking news was originally posted, surprisingly enough, in "Breaking News" before it was moved inexplicably to the "Kentucky" forum before more sensible heads prevailed and it was at least put over here in "General".

Point being, it was moved from where it appropriately would have gotten appropriate eyeballs as it was breaking a few hours ago. Now it needs kicking, in Jo small part, because the same ES&S touch-screen e-voting machines used by these election officials to flip the votes of users after they left the booth are used in a total of 18 states!

This is an important issue and needs to be seen by as many as possible as primary elections for 2010 are already under way!

16. How many times and how many places have there been reports of
Vote flipping with these touch screen machines in the last ten years? Those things should be outlawed. While optical scanners can be manipulated, at least there is a physical ballot that can be counted to settle any question.

19. I have no idea why
we have to use those damned electronic voting machines...oh, so elections can be stolen.

They're expensive to purchase and expensive to maintain.

Just give me a piece of paper and a pen....hell I'll even stick my finger in some ink!

Who cares if it takes a few hours longer to count the votes...at least we'll feel more certain that we have a 'true' election with a RECORD of it.

Damned Corporations. Damned Fascism.

20. This needs to go VIRAL and show what a mess electronic voting machines
can be. Absent some SERIOUS legislation to protect the integrity of the voting process, this is going to keep happening, and will only become more widespread.

And for years, I have been reliably assured that ACORN is the only organization that's been suborning voter fraud and stuff like that there. I can't wait to see how Andrew Breitbart and documentary filmmaker James O'Keefe go after these scoundrels! Although I'm going to guess that I'll have to wait. A very long time.

53. They, Clay Co., & lots of other counties have bought votes for over 100 years
Manipulation of the vote has been arranged many times by a pint of whiskey or an envelope of cash. Both sides have done it. The vote should be sacrosanct. These machines should be scrapped. Word on the mean streets of Lexington is that more indictments are coming down.

56. Drug dealer connections, fake gunfights, buying votes, precinct chair switching
ALL within the republicon party.

Being a precinct chair myself, I must at least give credos to my counterparts. They make sure ALL voters look for the "waving flag" after they cast their votes, whether by E-Slate or E-Scan machines.

However, I don't appreciate my counterparts letting the teabaggers come in and disrupt the election process. I just found out during our Texas 2010 primary in which I was an Election Judge, that I am an Election Nazi, because I told a teabagger (who looked every part of a meth-head) to be quite after he kept repeating 'he'd had ALL the change he could stand.' And then found out the teabagger wasn't even at the right polling location. So, he got to disrupt another precinct. I found out the next day by the Tarrant County Elections Commission that I could have had him arrested.

I communicate with the TCEC every election cycle about my concerns. I'm thinking of having a personal meeting with the admin. He has been very helpful in the past and I have offered suggestions in how to address certain issues we as precinct chairs face on election day. I'm starting to get scared about election day violence.

We should ALL do OUR part and become precinct chairs to keep republicons from joining our party just to rig elections.

I read through some of Bill Estep's articles and I must say if these guys would go to this much trouble to control local politics, what are they doing at the national level?!?
