Just like Bush
From HuffPo:
Congress gives college aid a boost

WASHINGTON -- More needy college students will have access to bigger Pell Grants, and future borrowers of government loans will have an easier time repaying them, under a vast overhaul of higher education aid that Congress passed Thursday and sent to President Barack Obama.

The legislation, an Obama domestic priority overshadowed by his health care victory, represents the most sweeping rewrite of college assistance programs in four decades. It strips banks of their role as middlemen in federal student loans and puts the government in charge.

4. There were National Direct Student Loans in the '70s and '80s
I got one through my university, not from a bank. The interest didn't kick in until a few months after I left school. And I paid that sucker off. My university wrote me to say that by paying off the loan, I was making the funds available for another student.

6. What's up with the subject?
It's a little early in the AM here but I don't get the "Just like Bush" ref.

Explain?

I too borrowed $ directly from New York State Department of Higher Education for my college ed. It was the way to go.

7. OK, Somewhat like Bush, but in some intolerably important areas
like war, healthcare, bank bailouts, KBR contracts, behind closed doors legislating, and misrepresenting his positions and actions.

But that education thing was a side win to a larger loss.

8. Healthcare overshadowed all
I had been following the student loan business where I could find the information but the MSM and alteratives were tied up with HCR. Obama also put through leg. on homeowner assistance and immigration is coming up.

The Man is busy!!
