Vatican Criticized For Not Defrocking Wis. Priest

The Vatican is under fire for failing to defrock a Wisconsin priest accused of molesting some 200 students at a school for the deaf during the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

The story was front page news on the New York Times. What sets this scandal apart is the paper trail. Documents show Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger -- now Pope Benedict XVI -- led the office that decided against disciplining the priest.

Outside the Vatican on Thursday morning, protesters who grew up in Wisconsin spoke out about the Father Lawrence Murphy who taught at and later led their school for deaf children.

"He assaulted this child here, this child here, this child here and this child here, this child here," said one demonstrator, as he pointed to a class picture from St. John's School for the Deaf
