full-figured women unite against Gretchen Carlson
Last night, while flipping around the TV channels, I decided to see what O'Reilly had to say. They
were discussing the Dove advertisements depicting full-figured women in their underwear and how those ads did not sell a lot of Dove products as opposed to the skinnier women ads. Gretchen and another skinny commentator mentioned that the ad does not sell the product because full-figured women have lower self-esteem than thinner women. I spit out what I was eating at the time (salad).

Isn't it nice that FOX hired her to tell all the women of the world what is wrong with them?

Full-figured women....Mo'Nique (sp) Oprah, Beyonce, ME, just to name a few......Low self-esteem? give me a break.

It is time to write some letters to FOX.

8. Anorexic supermodels come to mind
I think if you photograph them from the side, all you see is a line.

15. Some women are cyphers.
Squiggly little lines drawn by a fine point brush, and they all don't get that way because of good genes.

6. I think the "underweight" requirement is only for women, though.
It certainly doesn't apply to Beck.

4. Let's not forget
Queen Latifah, who is gorgeous...

I wish I had her "low self esteem"!!!!!

Maybe what this moron is saying is that full figured women aren't supposed to have self esteem?

I dunno...

I've seen photos of people who have lost a lot of weight, and in some cases, they actually looked somewhat better with a bit of pudge on them. Not everyone is meant to be a goddamn stick figure.

I'm overweight, but even if I lost (mumble mumble) number of pounds, I would still look "big" because I don't have cute little skinny bird bones.

5. Interesting
The full figured woman sees the thin woman in the underwear and is more likely to buy it than seeing another full figured woman in it - commercials sell a fantasy - buying the underwear won't make you thin!

I like to see a pulled-together full figured woman - seeing that it is possible (and closer to possible to make yourself look good that way than to lose weight with one single product).

30. You hypothesis sounds reasonable
Assuming it is accurate that the full figured model ads are not selling the product as much as non-full figured model ads, market researchers will be making conclusions so that the company can better sell it product.

16. Me too!
I would stop everything and watch when that commercial would come on. I thought those women were gorgeous and sexy, draped in their bath-bubbles and smiling happily. Wow, was that sexy!

It was pretty erotic how playful they were, too. One woman stuck her tongue out at the camera. Others just looked ebullient or serene.

I loved, Loved, LOVED that Dove commercial... O8)

Have they looked at their base lately? This station is FIXATED on scrawny blond readers. Fox is the home of the perpetually adolescent male.

18. They also criticize female law makers on their appearance first
The insults rw talkers use against female law makers often centers on their appearance too. Limbaugh makes a practice of this. When it comes to women appearance is the ONLY way these men can judge. It was the same in reverse with Palin, she was the fantasy woman for many of them. They are in junior high school and can't get out. Sickening.

Ironically, their base is mostly southern, and we southern women tend not to be emaciated. I wonder if the rw women realize that most of them are being criticized by default?

19. The RW women are oblivious.
Many of these men are the chauvinist types. However, I wonder if they realize that their dream women are all having major careers and not just staying home with their kids? I do stay home with my kids while I am going back to college and everyone should have a choice. But it is ironic.

12. Want to write a letter to Faux?
Then be prepared to supply an audio tape along with it to read it to them, especially if you use big words.

I really don't expect the spokesmodels that Faux hires to "get" marketing to full figured women. You just happened to see a display of that ignorance.

Plus-size Models in Ads May Just Make Women Feel Bad About Themselves

Though the fashion industry keeps saying curves are “in,” it may be unwise for many brands to cast plus-size models in ads, according to a new Arizona State University study. Plus-size models are unlikely to sway targeted consumers to buy certain products, since they may just make them feel bad about themselves, researchers say.

"We believe it is unlikely that many brands will gain market share by using heavy models in their ads,” said Naomi Mandel, marketing associate professor in the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU. “We found that overweight consumers demonstrated lower self-esteem — and therefore probably less enthusiasm about buying products — after exposure to any size models in ads (versus ads with no models). Also, normal-weight consumers experienced lower self-esteem after exposure to moderately heavy models, such as those in Dove soap’s ‘Real Women’ campaign, than after exposure to moderately thin models.”

Researchers asked women with low, normal, and high body-mass indexes how they felt after viewing ads with skinny, normal, and plus-size models. Skinny women with low BMI felt good after looking at ads with all kinds of models, since they identified with the thin ones and felt different from the heavier ones. Heavy women with high BMI felt big in comparison to the idealized skinny models, and identified with the bigger ones. Average-size women felt skinny and good when faced with skinny models, but heavy and bad when faced with bigger models.

Plus-size models could help, the researchers note, in ads for certain things, such as weight-loss supplements and gyms — by making women feel bad enough about themselves that they decide to spend money on those things.

36. No, sorry . . .
. . . I recall having seen a news report on this University of Arizona study a week or so ago, and then googled for it when I saw this thread. I don't now recall precisely where I found this most recent report, but I imagine that if you search for "University of Arizona," "Dove," etc., you'll be able to find various news accounts.

23. It seems to me that women who starve themselves to fit some mythical
ideal of a proper weight are the ones with low self esteem. The ones with endless diets and hours every day on exercising to reach the perfect image are the ones who see themselves as less than perfect, and who don't realize that perfection is unattainable - they are the ones with low self esteem.

Methinks she doth protest too much.

35. I use Dove products because of their advertising
I appreciate Dove's emphasis on self-esteem. Their products for women of a "certain age", for instance, are called Pro-Age. Yes. They embrace it. They also fund a program to foster self-esteem to girls in elementary schools around the country.

Gretchen Carlson doesn't dictate the products I use. She never will. In the meantime, she can kiss my fat white ass. I'd rather weigh 400 pounds than be as stupid as she is.
