Turkey Crashes Through Second Story Window

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) ― The feathers were flying in Roseville Thursday after a wild turkey flew through the second story window at an insurance office building.

The bird was fine. Minutes after the crash, employees say it scurried around a little stunned and jumped on a few desks, knocking things over.

"I researched it online, and it said they can take off like a helicopter and get to 50 miles an hour pretty quickly, and when I heard it hit the window, now I believe this story," said Steve Mackus, witnessed the turkey.

The bird is now resting at the Placer County Animal Shelter and will soon be released back into the wild.

2. We used to have wild turkeys in our backyard.
My partner/husband/whatever Bryan used to like them, which was odd because he was terrified of birds. He said that since turkeys couldn't fly he had no problem.

Then one afternoon he came home to find a bunch of them flocked on the roof of the garage. That was the end of his affinity for the turkeys. Turned out they only preferred not to fly.

On the other hand...

24. aw - poor hubby!
we have lots of wild turkeys in our neighborhood too. I have seen them fly up to the trees however they are pretty shy around people. My problem is that whenever I come across them, I'm walking my dog and she just wants to get at them. She just won't be quiet and let me watch them! lol

12. WILD turkeys can fly
but the pent-up, overfed Baby Hueys that grace our Thanksgiving tables are too heavy to fly. Mr. Carlson still isn't off the hook, as ignorance of the laws of aerodynamics is no excuse.

27. Yes, very true.
Not a chance that those big fat domestic turkeys could achieve lift-off. I was merely going for the laugh line. :P

28. Me too
It's not often that I'm able to work the phrase 'overfed Baby Hueys' into the conversation...when talking about something other than freeps/teabaggers/101st Keyboard Kommandos, that is.

9. Just to clarify...
...wild turkeys do indeed fly; usually to get in and out of a roost tree or to avoid a predator.
It's domesticated turkeys that don't fly, mostly because of how heavy they are.
