My Democratic primer for a wingnut relative sending Rethug chain e-mails. It's Walmart vs President.
Edited on Fri Mar-26-10 12:51 PM by UTUSN
She is a 2nd cousin whom I've never met in person. The internets has opened up extensions of family that in earlier generations we never would have had contact with at all. So she's not a spring chicken, has kids in their 20s, is a single parent, and little is left of her High Maintenance upbringing except for a certain snarkiness. Most of her chain e-mails are religious of the most superficial and Pharisaic kind.

In the political e-mail she sent (below), there are the telltale signs of Teabaggers: 1) the pretense that BOTH parties are being addressed, and 2) the discovery at the end that the single issue is HEALTH CARE----which shuts out the Rethugs as actually being addressed, since no Rethugs supported HCR---not to mention the usual Wingnut ignorance of calling the House of Reps "legislature" and addressing President OBAMA (not any Rethug leader). On Edit: Oh, and "most" of the Walmart employees are said to "SPEAK ENGLISH"!1

I have just Deleted all of her other chains, but here (first) is my reply to her junk (below):

Well, (Name), you HAVE said you either LEAN or ARE a Republican - or as I call them, "Repukes" or "Rethugs". As a Dem I respect other people's politics (& religious beliefs) and, most of all, know that it is futile to ARGUE ("debate") or to think that the other side can ever be CONVERTED. So I'm not going to attack or try to convert anybody, but since the e-mail included, "What do you think?" I'll respond on a one-time basis (no ongoing "debate").

1) Some Dems detest Walmart because it is anti-union, because it buys cheap Chinese products for retailing (meaning American jobs lost to China), and because every new store it opens means that all the local mom & pop businesses around that location close down because they can't compete.

2) That said, the vast majority of low income people are Walmart customers because of the lower prices.

3) As for the 2nd half of the e-mail, which is anti-PEOPLE and pro-Rethug: I've got a few solutions for "fixing" government programs: How about if upper income people stopped getting MediCARE and Social Security, just for starters? And then, if all of the HUGE farm/ranch OWNERS (of THOUSANDS of acres) would stop collecting "farm subsidies" for NOT growing crops or for growing certain crops, THERE's a chunk of savings or "EFFICIENCY" as the critic (below) would say. And then how about all those religious denominations that are TAX EXEMPT for all of their humongous amounts of income and property, yet are out there preaching POLITICS of the mostly Rethug kind? We could find savings by their PAYING TAXES. And if we stopped selling arms to other countries and stopped WAR policies, savings on WEAPONS contractors would WAY cut down our spending. This list could get VERY long.

You know all these home health agencies with all their company vehicles running around? When I saw one huge pick-up truck, brand new, with a home health logo on it AND a Shrub-CHEENEE bumper sticker on it, I called that home health number and told the office manager that their company EXISTS because it gets ALL of its money from MediCARE, a Democratic program. It was probably the owner's personal vehicle that had the bumper sticker, not the visiting nurses. But we also know this husband-wife who are RAGING Rethugs (because of the single-issue of Anti-CHOICE because of the Catholic Church), and one of them collects $70,000 salary as administrator for an adult day care, and guess where THAT money comes from: MediCARE.

O.K., (Name), don't take this personally. But the e-mail DID ask "what do you think?" AND if I get Rethug propaganda I will answer (or Delete). This is just to let you know where I'm coming from: Rethugs are people who "GOT THEIRS" and who stomp on the fingers of other people trying to climb up the same ladder. And I'm not sending this e-mail to anybody except you because I do not want to be divisive with the family.

**************QUOTE, WHAT SHE ORIGINALLY SENT ME*************

VERY INTERESTING

What do you think?
1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private Employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 Years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur At a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to Fix the economy.

This should be read and understood by all Americans
Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!!
To President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature,

It is now official you are ALL corrupt morons:

· The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775. You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.

· Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke.

· Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke.

· War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.

· Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.

· Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.

· The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.

You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars

AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM?

1. She seems like the same kind of jerk that will complain about the lack of jobs
in this country, yet fail to realize that big corporations like walmart are only able to profit by squashing wages and exploiting people and I just wonder if any of her cash is helping (via 401k) to contribute to the loss of the middle class?

Yes, probably because they couldn't compete with the cheap crap being sold by Wal-mart.

3. I am surprised that all of these problems occurred even though the
Republicans were in power during many of these years. If they are so smart, why did they not resolve just one of these problems.

4. What she answered:
***************QUOTE**********

You know what? I am not that politically involved to care either way, so I am not offended....sorry if that does not make me a "hard-core" American. I happen to be one of the poor that are forced to buy at Wal-Mart because we can't afford anything else. I have always said that if you have money, you have options. If you don't have money, you are stuck with whatever you can get for cheap, and it will usually BE cheap.

I just thought it made an interesting point as I voted for Perot....back when...and still believe that we really need someone with a business background, instead of political, to fix most of this country's problems. I am not highly impressed with Obama's "package" as one newspaper put it.
