Rep. Waxman Introduces the Safe Climate Act of 2007 Rep. Waxman, together with over 125 House colleagues, introduced H.R. 1590, the “Safe Climate Act of 2007.” The legislation is based on what scientists have concluded the United States must do to avoid dangerous, irreversible warming of the planet and would significantly reduce U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases.
Rep. Waxman Introduces Comprehensive Drug Safety Bill Rep. Waxman joined Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-MA) to introduce H.R. 1561, The Enhancing Drug Safety and Innovation Act of 2007. The bill contains many important provisions that will strengthen FDA’s post-market drug safety system; establish the Reagan-Udall Institute for Applied Biomedical Research, a new public-private partnership to advance FDA’s Critical Path Initiative; establish mandatory clinical trials registry and results databases; and reform procedures to manage conflicts of interest on FDA’s advisory Committees.
Oversight Committee Issues Three Subpoenas To Further InvestigationsChairman Waxman and the Oversight Committee approved the issuance of three subpoenas related to ongoing investigations. The Committee issued two subpoenas to the Republican National Committee requesting the testimony of RNC Chairman Mike Duncan and documents related to possible violations of the Presidential Records Act and the Hatch Act by White House officials. The third subpoena requests the testimony of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice regarding the fabricated claim that Iraq sought uranium from Niger and other issues.
