Rep. Waxman Introduces the Safe Climate Act of 2007
Rep. Waxman, together with over 125 House colleagues, introduced H.R. 1590, the “Safe Climate Act of 2007.” The legislation is based on what scientists have concluded the United States must do to avoid dangerous, irreversible warming of the planet and would significantly reduce U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases.

Rep. Waxman Introduces Comprehensive Drug Safety Bill
Rep. Waxman joined Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-MA) to introduce H.R. 1561, The Enhancing Drug Safety and Innovation Act of 2007. The bill contains many important provisions that will strengthen FDA’s post-market drug safety system; establish the Reagan-Udall Institute for Applied Biomedical Research, a new public-private partnership to advance FDA’s Critical Path Initiative; establish mandatory clinical trials registry and results databases; and reform procedures to manage conflicts of interest on FDA’s advisory Committees.

Oversight Committee Issues Three Subpoenas To Further Investigations
Chairman Waxman and the Oversight Committee approved the issuance of three subpoenas related to ongoing investigations. The Committee issued two subpoenas to the Republican National Committee requesting the testimony of RNC Chairman Mike Duncan and documents related to possible violations of the Presidential Records Act and the Hatch Act by White House officials. The third subpoena requests the testimony of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice regarding the fabricated claim that Iraq sought uranium from Niger and other issues.

Oversight Committee Holds Hearing on Tillman, Lynch Incidents
Chairman Waxman and the Oversight Committee held a hearing on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 focusing on misleading information following the death of Army Ranger Specialist Patrick Tillman in Afghanistan and the capture and rescue of Army Private Jessica Lynch in Iraq.

Chairman Waxman Invites Former CIA Director George Tenet to Testify on Iraq War Intelligence
Chairman Waxman has invited former CIA Director George Tenet to testify before the Committee regarding one of the claims used to justify the war in Iraq - the assertion that Iraq sought to import uranium from Niger - and related issues.

Chairman Waxman Asks Agencies for Information on Political Presentations
Chairman Waxman wrote to government agencies requesting further information and documents about any briefings mentioning elections or candidates provided to agency employees by officials in the White House.

Chairman Waxman Asks for Further Information on Halliburton Move
Chairman Waxman wrote to David Lesar, CEO of Halliburton, requesting information about the effects of Halliburton's decision to move the office of its CEO to Dubai.
