Marine General: Gays Will Be Segregated if DADT is Repealed
Marine general: Gays would get their own rooms
By ANNE FLAHERTY
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Marine Corps' commandant said he won't force his troops to bunk with gays
on base and would give them separate rooms if Congress votes to allow openly gay service.

The comment, by Gen. James Conway, is the latest pushback by a small but vocal faction
of senior military leaders opposed to a repeal of the 1993 law known as "don't ask, don't tell."

(snip)

Conway, a known opponent of repealing the law, suggested in an interview published Friday
by Military.com that he already knows it would be a logistical hurdle. On base, Marines
typically bunk two-to-a-room.

"I would not ask our Marines to live with someone who is homosexual if we can possibly
avoid it," he said.

And so the segregation talk begins. Because, you know, it's always worked out so WELL for us before. *sigh*

4. That would make my day, oh yes indeed.
Let's just hope that nobody decides that segregation is a good bipartisan compromise. Ugh.

15. There's that vulgar word again: bipartisan.
I hope we bury that word from now on! :)

6. We sure as hell don't need his service.
If that is the best the Marines have we would be better off. But, I'm sure there are many many good Marines that consider their service to country primary over any discrimination.

13. Of course we don't. That's why he's dismissed. I was just being polite.
Even being an ignorant bigot, he probably did something good once or twice.

Time to put that one out to pasture.

7. The general needs to be reminded that the US Constitution put the military under CIVILIAN control
So, Sir, suck it up and salute the CIC when this passes. And say Yessir.

10. Perhaps the American people need to ask how that clown ever
became a general. For chrissakes. . .he not only projects his own homophobia onto the troops, but seems in denial that there haven't already been good gay soldiers bunking with straight soldiers on base.

This man is too paranoid about his golden peepee to be commanding anything - he seems overly dependent upon images of heterosupremacy as a motivation for fighting and serving this country to be any sort of asset to a free nation. His presumption that all current Marines MUST be heterosexual is outrageous enough, but to then insult the gay soldiers who he doesn't seem to recognize as existing should be grounds enough to remove him from command. We can't have cohesive operating units with commanding officers who are so utterly dependent upon images of heterosexuality - and projecting them onto his troops - as such a predominant requirement for this man to engage in participating in our national defense.

I am utterly surprised that more people don't directly call clowns like this out for their obvious personal insecurities - and to point out that this man has been living on the public dole all of his life while apparently never protesting the gays helping to foot the bill for HIS lifestyle. Instead, he views it as an entitlement program for heterosexual males - a sort of public welfare program in which those he fears should willingly foot the bill because straight men apparently all possess some sacred golden peepee that is always at risk for assault.

Never mind that it is, indeed, straight men with the history of thinking through that peepee and hold the title of most-likely-to-assault-a-woman -- and yet this general projects that history as if every other citizen - particularly those he has helped oppress - would do the same to him.

How much do ya wanna bet this clown turns his head when the Marines drop by one of our farflung military bases and drop by the local off-limits-but-always-there brothels? Or has some kind of explanation for the thousands of Ameri-Vietnamese children that were born during our engagement in that country? Clearly, he mistakens the lack of historical self-discipline among heterosexual men as extending to anyone allowed the same freedom to serve their country. Instead, he'd rather others foot the bill and reinforce his fantasy that all Marines MUST be heterosexual men.

As for bunking with a gay guy? This man has never been to a military academy or a university - or apparently not even a boy scout camp.

Say Good Bye, James. Time for you to spend all day at the VFW drinking beer and talking about how important you used to be to America's defense.

12. How is he going to know who the gays are?
I would suspect that most of them would remain in the closet, just so they would not have to put up with people like Gen. Conway.

21. Time for the general to retire if he is afraid of gays who are already
serving and have been serving with distinction in the Marines for generations. We don't need cluelessness and irrational fear at the top.

I think it's safe to say that gays and straights are currently bunking together.
