Obama Called "Buckwheat" by Lone Republican in District 17 Race
(It gets so unbelievable anymore. These people do not have respect for the office of president.)

Corey Poitier, the lone Republican in the race to replace Congressman Kendrick Meek in District 17, has a message for President Barack Obama: "Listen up, Buckwheat."

Poitier, a teacher at North Miami Beach Senior High who is also African-American, made the comments at a Broward County Republicans meeting while giving a speech against health-care reform.

Buckwheat was the name of an African-American cast member on the Little Rascals or Our Gang movie shorts. While some people say the shorts were the first in Hollywood history to portray black and whites as equals, others say Buckwheat and other African-American cast members were based on stereotypes and often not shown as smart as the others. Buckwheat was known for his catch phrase, "Otay," and unkempt Afro.

1. There behavior speaks volumes about their

anger and frustration.

All the more reason that we never give up working against this type of behavior.

Question; How many people were at the MCPALIN Rally?

I never saw a crowd shot.

4. Lawrence O'Donnell was covering for KO tonight, and it was said
they had several rooms, but the audience was not really huge.

Relative to Bush, I could not respect the guy, but I still respected the office of president.

5. The more they do this the more I refuse to even remotely give up or give in to
their behavior. These people are outrageous bullies. No, I never saw a crowd shot either. I've not heard a specific number, other than on KO that it was not as huge as one might have expected. They had several rooms, but had roped them to focus the crowd.

3. It seems highly unlikely he did it for racist purposes, though he clearly used it as a pejorative

6. Of course OTAY was actually the catch phrase
Edited on Fri Mar-26-10 08:10 PM by whistler162
originating with the fat white kid(Porky), "The "Buckwheat" and "Porky" characters both became known for their collective garbled dialogue, in particular their catchphrase, "O-tay!" originally uttered by Porky, but soon shared by both characters". But, heck Eddie Murphy made it Buckwheats own. So why argue.

The guy is a idiot and falls into the classic not knowing enough about the character/person they are trying to use as a slur.
