10,000 Mother Of A March, Day After Mothers Day, May 14, Washington, DC

Cindy Sheehan calls on Mothers of the world to join her in surrounding Congress and demanding an end
to this evil occupation.

We need to shut the city down, and will refuse to leave until Congress

MOTHER OF A MARCH

The time for being polite to our war-mongering politicians

and organizations which support them................is over!!

We mothers have to stand up and put our bodies on the line for peace and humanity. We must look into the best parts of ourselves that make us mothers willing to care for and protect all children of the world, not just our own. We need to access our hearts and souls to lead from a place of compassion and love not from war/fear mongering, hatred and disgraceful threats and use of bullying force.

I am calling on Mothers of the world to join us in Washington DC for a “10,000 Mother of a March” on the day after Mother’s Day, Monday, May 14th, 2007. Marches on the weekends are not effective, we need to shut the city of DC down! We will surround Congress and demand an end to this evil occupation and refuse to leave until the Congressional Leadership agrees with us, or throws us in jail!

Meet at Layfayette Park at noon. We will rally then march to Congress

I am calling on Mothers of the world to descend on US embassies all over the world that day.
Imagine 10,000 Iraqi women marching on the Green Zone: marching in solidarity with us to end
the slaughter of their children. I believe millions of mothers around the world are tired of
their children being used as cannon fodder and political tools in the games of war and killer sanctions.

Together we will stop the war machine.

Mothers united will never be defeated!

Third Annual Mother’s Day National Action Day
On Behalf of Mothers Everywhere

May 11th, 2007

Let solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means whereby
the great human family can live in peace ~ Julia Ward Howe*

Join us in our third annual Mother’s Day “Peace of the Pie” National Action Day! On May 11th (the Friday before Mother's Day), gather members of your community to take pies to your local Congressional offices, letting your members of Congress know that “Peace wants a Piece of the Pie,” (i.e., the federal budget). Last year several members of congress singed on to support the Department of Peace legislation after our Peace of Pie Action, so we know it can be a very effective action.

We know all too well the lack of attention and resources that serious peacebuilding efforts receive in our nation. It’s time for that to change. Your participation in this Mother's Day-inspired* campaign is a creative way for us to get out the word about the Department of Peace and to let Congress know that we want our government to make peacebuilding a national investment priority.

PARTICIPATE!

Sign up to organize or join activities in your area! Click here… www.thepeacealliance.org

Participation in this Mother’s day-inspired campaign can consist of any one or all of the actions listed below. Please don’t let this list limit or intimidate you, it is your own individual/group’s availability and creativity that should guide your actions. Do as much or as little as you are willing and able to do -- it will all have an impact. To find out who is organizing in your state, Click here…

Visit your Congressional Office

On May 11th, take a pie to your local Congressional office with a downloaded national budget pie chart (coming soon)
showing the tiny slice that represents the portion of the U.S. federal budget requested for the Department of Peace,
and ask your member to support the legislation. Ideally you will set up an official meeting with the local office,
however, a drop by visit will also have impact. Bring community members.
more...www.thepeacealliance.org

Media

Getting media to cover your efforts is a powerful way to educate the public and demonstrate to your members
of Congress that this legislation is important to your community. Enroll radio, television and newspapers
to cover local teams delivering pies and the story behind your unique “Peace of the Pie” event – the supporters
and volunteers in your state campaign, the local efforts to garner Congressional support, and the national campaign.

Generate great publicity!

Peace of the Pie Media Call on March 26th.

Learn more>> www.thepeacealliance.org

House Party/Outreach Event

Sometime in the weeks before Mother’s day, host a Peace of the Pie house party or public outreach event
to spread the word about why citizens all over this country are taking pies to their local members
of Congress on behalf of the Department of Peace legislation.
Educate them about the legislation and enroll them in joining you in your May 11th Congressional visit.
If you would like, this event can also be a fundraiser for The Peace Alliance and the local campaign.

more.... www.thepeacealliance.org

Public Event/Rally

Before or after your Congressional office visit, hold a rally with local citizens at a park
or on the steps of City Hall. Bring Department of Peace banners, signs, and materials.
Bring your kids and have music. Make it a festive and fun event.
Invite media to cover your activities.
Help create visibility for the campaign and your efforts.

Mother's Day Proclamation 1870

http://www.thepeacealliance.org/content/view/71/36/

Mother's Day began with a woman named Julia Ward Howe (Battle Hymn of the Republic), who nursed the wounded during the American Civil War. In 1870 she started a crusade to institute a Mother's Day as a Day for Peace. Here is her Mothers Day proclamation.

Proclamation

"Arise, then, women of this day! Arise all women who have hearts, whether our baptism be that of water or of fears!

Say firmly: "We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies. Our husbands shall not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause. Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience.

We women of one country will be too tender of those of another country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs. From the bosom of the devastated earth a voice goes up with our own. It says "Disarm, Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice."

Blood does not wipe our dishonor nor violence indicate possession. As men have often forsaken the plow and the anvil at the summons of war, let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of counsel. Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.

Let them then solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means whereby the great human family can live in peace, each bearing after their own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar, but of God.

In the name of womanhood and of humanity, I earnestly ask that a general congress of women without limit of nationality may be appointed and held at some place deemed most convenient and at the earliest period consistent with its objects, to promote the alliance of the different nationalities, the amicable settlement of international questions, the great and general interests of peace."

3. I just realized that this event takes place on
my Iraq War Vet son's birthday. Mother's Day and his birthday on the same day!!!
That hasn't coincided in a very long time! I just missed becoming a mother on
Mother's Day by two days, when he was born. He is my first child. :loveya:

Hell yeah!! I'll bake a pie! :)

8. Hey GE! GET THE GOP to END THE WAR or WE DON'T BUY YOUR PRODUCTS ANYMORE.
THE MILLION PHONE MARCH TO END THE WAR IN IRAQ

No Free speech Zones. NO arrests. No marginalization by the press.

You call Republican contributor and war contractor General Electric Corporation at
203-373-2211 and ask for the public relations department and give them an ultimatum.

http://www.ge.com

"GET THE GOP to END THE WAR or WE DON'T BUY YOUR PRODUCTS ANYMORE."

Tell the person that we will not buy GE light bulbs, refrigerators, ovens, stoves,
telephones, TVs, radios, and everything with a GE logo on it until your CEO gets
the Republican party to end the war.

Very clever!! ;) Thanks liberaldemocrat7!
Great idea!! Every little bit of pressure helps!

2. I'm debating on whether or not to drive down to DC
or maybe take a bus. Last time I drove it I was really annoyed with my car! :rofl:
I had to ride the clutch all the way through the NJ Turnpike. Maybe I can hitch a ride!

'10,000 Days'

by Tool

Wings For Marie (pt. 1)

You...

You believed
You believed in moments not conceived
You believed in me

A passionate spirit
Uncompromise
Without us in your heart
A light in your eyes that
Ends all lies

Vacant, broken
Fell at the hands of
Those moments that I wouldn't see
Cause it was you who prayed for me, so
What have I done to be a son to an angHell?
What have I done to be worthy?

Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence
Difficult to see you in this light
Please forgive this selfish question, but
What am I to say to all these ghouls tonight?

She never told a lie
Well might of told a lie
But never lived one
Didn't have a life
Didn't have a life
But surely saved one
Asleep? Oh alright
Now it's time for us to let you go

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'10,000 Days' (wings Pt. 2)
We listen to the tales and romanticize
How we follow the path of the hero
Boast about the day when the rivers overrun
How we'll rise to the height of our halo
Listen to the tales as we all rationalize
Our way into the arms of the savior
Fading all the trials and the tribulations
None of us have actually been there
Not like you
Ignorant fibbers in the congregation
Gather around spewing sympathy, spare me
None of them could even hold a candle up to you
Blinded by choices; hypocrites won't seek
But enough about the collective Judas
Who could deny you were the one
Who would have made it?
You'll have a piece of the divine
This little light of mine
The gift you passed on to me
I'm gonna let it shine
To guide you safely on your way
Your way home
Oh, what are they gonna do
When the lights go down
Without you to guide them all to Zion?
What are they gonna do when the rivers overrun
Other than tremble incessantly?
High as a wave,
But I'll rise on up off the ground
You are the light and the way
They'll only read about
I only pray heaven knows
When to lift you out
Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough
You're going home
You're the only one who can
Hold your head up high
Shake your fist at the gates saying,
I have come home now
Fetch me the spirit, the son and the father
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended
It's time now
My time now
Give me my
Give me my wings
You are the light, the way
That they will only read about
Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance
Burden of proof tossed upon all non-believers
You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence
Judith Marie, unconditional one
Daylight dims leaving kool fluorescence
Difficult to see you in this light
Please forgive this bold suggestion
Should you see your maker's face tonight
Look 'em in the eye
Look 'em in the eye and tell 'em
I never lived a lie, never took a life
But surely saved one, hallejullah
It's time for you to bring me home
