I can't stand my f**king right winged family!
My sister in law wrote this on her FB Wall - "A question: If Obamacare is so wonderful, why have Obama and his staff exempted themselves from it? If it is good enough for the rest of us, why not for them?"

So there a couple posts and one where a friend of hers said that media matters said it was a mistake saying that congress would get different care than the rest of us to which she responded something about "learning more about the matter" blah blah blah.

So I wrote a very nice, cogent reply explaining that it is not a health care bill that they voted on or that even exists but it is a series of health reforms. I did say that the Democrats were mad because we lost the Public Option and were calling the president a corporatist while the Republicans we mad and calling him a socialist, (I think the irony is interesting)

I then explained some examples, like keeping children on their parents until they are 26 etc and I ended it nicely.

I went to check if anyone had responded and the bitch DELETED MY POST!

I swear I do not think these people want to be informed. I believe they want to stay in their mis-informed egotistical sanctimonious ignorance because it makes them able to feel superior. If they actually knew about the issues they would feel like complete dumb-asses!

I wrote another post and asked her if she deleted my first post and why? I was not mean spirited. I saved that for here at good ol DU.

1. You have my sympathies
Thankfully none of my family has drunk the kool-aid, other than my brother's brief one-time wasted vote for Rayguns which caused me to call him a fascist for four years until he redeemed himself and voted again Saint Ronnie in '84.

2. I love my sister dearly and she is as RW as they come. I deleted my FB account...
because I got sick of all the misinformed crap she was posting among other reasons that I rather not go into.

Best thing I ever did. If I hadn't, I don't think her and I would be talking now.

3. Thank gawd I don't hear that crap from family but friends otoh....ugh
Just posted a response to the "Judge Kithil of Marble Falls , TX" drivel.

My friend claims she's an Indie but either she's a straight up liar or is only fooling herself - not fooling me one bit.

Nice that you took the time to respond to all of that garbage. I just told my friend to get a reality check here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck/

You have my sympathies.

4. My family was never right wing. Thank God.
Oh, Grandma had some unattractive racial attitudes, but she was born in the 19th century. Mostly hard working, unions are good types. They would never think of being the kind of Beck/Tea Party crowd out there now.

Edited on Sat Mar-27-10 12:04 AM by hatesthegop
That happened when I first got married and my wife's family loved Reagan...we haven't talked to them in 29 years...that includes the birth of our two children, the marriage of our son, and the death of my father in law...fuck anybody who is a red neck I have no use for them...

6. Similar Story
A friend (not a family member) joined one of those Facebook groups called "I vow not to support any politician who votes for socialized medicine." So, in the comments section, I typed two simple words: "Including Medicare?"

She deleted my post.

I'm telling you, these right-wingers DON'T WANT people to know the whole story on healthcare. I have a sneaking suspicion that MOST of them know that what they're spouting is bullshit, but just hope that they can coat it in so much fear-speech that nobody will dare try to find out the truth for themselves. I swear, you try to educate these people and all they do is stick their fingers in their ears and shout, "LA LA LA!!!"

7. The question is "WHY"? Why don't they want to know the truth even if it means better
things for them? Why does my mother seem to want to believe that the country is going to Hell in a pot because of the deficit but said nothing when Bush caused the same type. Why the Hell does she insist on saying that we went to war because of 9/11, ("Iraq didn't attack us Ma" my usual retort)

9. having too much fun being mad.
And if they were to accept that they were wrong their whole world view could come crashing down. Easier to stay delusional. Their team, right or wrong and hate the other side is the way to go.

10. Tell your Sister, Obama and Congress are included in the plan.
Smerconish filled in for Tweety a few days this past week and
Smerconish said it was important for people to know this.

He actually read the Section from the Bill.

14. I feel your pain. I've got freaking Shonda Schilling and the next Jim Bunning, Curt
Schilling at the head of an entire mob of my aunts, uncles, and cousins who are just as willfully ignorant as your sister as well as eager to impress the rich and famous Schillings with how completely they agree with them.

They all expect Curt to eventually become president and they all want to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom. You know, 'cause they share so much with the Emancipation Proclamation dude. ;)

I quite my Facebook page for this very reason, but just when I think I've blocked them all out, one or both of the Schillings appear on my tv, in my newspaper or magazine, or pop up online. Talk about RW relatives from hell...

17. Same in-law dilema here
When the Cash for Clunkers program was in full swing, my redneck idiot brother-in-law asked me "Why don't you go get you one of those new cars I'm buying everyone!" I politely (well... kinda politely) responded "I didn't think your business was making enough money to pay any taxes... are you sure you're buying those cars for everyone?" I do feel your pain!

20. I do not understand people who need to remain closeted liberals
in order to be friends w/ family members. What are friends for if not to share values??

Maraya1969, you've handled this well. I had to ditch most all of my rightwing friends and family members since I cannot tolerate their willful ignorance. You said it best: "their misinformed, egotistical, sanctimonious ignorance.." Believe it or not, I had a couple of friends come away from the dark side. ;) But educating one of them is a rare thing.

Good luck to you.

22. George Carlin
In one of his last stand-up acts that appeared on HBO - talked about 'email' and 'contacts' and the Power of Delete. :pals: Delete her. Sister or not. I ended up deleting 8 people from my Facebook page that were friends in high school or college because they were so uh - er? Paranoid? Irrational? I have a few DU'ers on my page and the reality is - I've never met them. And as crazy as this is? I don't IndianDem to be offended because I'm away from my FB page for a few days and come back to nonsense and drivel on my page.

Wheeeeew - thank the light that be taht my brother, cousins, and vast majority of people in my life have critical thinking skills - and therefore are on the left. ;-)

26. I put them on IGNORE ...
.... they may have me on ignore too. I don't care. Whatever.

I was friended on FB by my sister-in-law who's a (racist) RWNJ and I liked to goad her and her pals into admitting it's because he's black. First, I used facts, then kept distilling it down and further down until they had only one reason left. LOL Then she un-friended me. (I was worried she'd beat me with a hockey stick when we saw them at Christmas! hah)

Facts are so inconvenient to wingers, aren't they?
