Chertoff Joins Defense Firm that Defrauded U.S.

Michael Chertoff, the former homeland security chief who’s not been shy about exploiting terrorist threats for the benefit of his clients, has decided to join a top defense contractor that defrauded the U.S. government.

The one-time head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under President George W. Bush is now a board member of BAE Systems, the United Kingdom-based defense corporation that agreed to pay $447 million in fines to the American and British governments to settle allegations of corruption, including bribing a top Saudi Arabian official.

BAE is the eighth-largest contractor doing business with Washington, having received $7.1 billion in government contracts in 2009 alone. It also has received more than $200 million from DHS since 2005.

Following the attempted bombing of a Northwest Airlines flight on Christmas Day, Chertoff was seen on television calling for the government to buy full-body scanners for airport checkpoints. Chertoff failed to mention in numerous interviews that his consulting business represented the company, Rapiscan Systems, that makes the scanners.

3. I've been saying for years that no matter what rock you pick up

The same corrupt bugs scuttle away into the darkness. It may seem like there's just too much bad stuff to fight all over the world but when the rocks get picked up lo and behold, it's always the usual suspects. The same families and people are all linked together somehow. Pick a highly secretive organization like Skull and Bones for example and if we could connect each person to all the people they do business with over the course of their lifetimes and you will see connections to the largest international corporations, gun running, arms sales, manufacture of war machines, drug running, high level government officials and Big Banks.

I always think of this. If Skull and Bones picks around 6 new members each year, that makes 60 member in ten years, and only a mere 600 in a Century. Out of those 600 many die so replacing them is easy. For an international elite organization with contacts everywhere that's a small number of very powerful people which manages to maintain its stability and cohesion precisely because the membership is small. If you look at George Bush's life and wonder how in the hell he ever made it to the Presidency all you have to do is remember he's a Skull and Bones member who is put where he was to further the organization's goals.

Chertoff may not be a direct member of Skull and Bones (which I'm using as an example) but it isn't too difficult to imagine he's benefiting from his contacts since he's never really seemed to qualify for the positions he's been put in.

Or, I could just be paranoid.
