Has the media corrected the "Cantor shooting story yet?"
Edited on Sat Mar-27-10 09:42 AM by Botany
And why does he still have a job?

CBS has a corrected story but still says it was his office that was hit by a random shot.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20001283-503544.html

Fox has the random bullet story too.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/03/26/bullet-struck-cantors-office-appears-randomly-fired/

Both still are repeating the lie that it was his office that was hit. Same for the N.Y. Times too.

As far as I could glean from the news the following are the facts in the case:

1) The shot was up in the air and a random shot.

2) When it struck the window it (the bullet) had enough force to break the glass but not break the blinds.

3) The bullet was found on the floor of the office.

4) The office in question was not his campaign office but a consulting firm that did business w/ Rep. Cantor

5) The building were the bullet struck was not in Cantor's district and had no exterior marking noting any
connection to Rep. Cantor but the building was called the Reagan building.

6) Cantor gave a press briefing where he mentioned that a window of his campaign office had been shot out but he would take no questions.

7) According to the N.Y. Times Cantor's office has not returned phone calls or e-mails as per the shooting.

Please double and triple check my facts and post any mistakes I have made.

At his news conference, where he declined to take questions from reporters, Mr. Cantor had urged that threats be left to law enforcement
officials, and not used for publicity purposes.

“Legitimate threats should be treated as security issues, and they should be dealt with by the appropriate law enforcement officials,” he said.
“It is reckless to use these incidents as media vehicles for political gain.”

A spokesman for Mr. Cantor did not return two calls or respond to an e-mail message seeking comment on Friday.

17. It is kind of an easy call ...
pretty much any time an R opens his or her mouth at this point it is a lie or gross exaggeration, but year, they way he said it not taking questions I knew it was BS ...

There are only two options ...

1) He flat out lied (reality)
2) He didn't understand all the facts ... IF he wants to retreat to this position, then it still should be terminal to his leadership position - he calls a press conference to admonish Ds for politicizing acts of violence and claimes to be a victim without the facts, and being flat out wrong about it? The second person in charge of one of the two major political parties in congess has to get his friggen facts straight, flat out, before he does something like this ...

I e-mailed all the CNN shows on Friday, I am going to write LTE for several major publications ...

This needs to be worked HARD ...

19. CNN was pushing the lie big time
Their web site has nothing about the new info and that the bullet was random. CNN is in no doubt
damage control right now.

What Eric needs is to have to answer the questions of a couple of old police detectives
and see how his story holds up.

The shooting was on a monday night tuesday morning and when did the police investigate
it? What and when did Eric learn about the shooting? Where are the e-mails and phone
messages that threatened him because he is Jewish?

7. It could be called the Judy Miller fine.

My local paper the Columbus Dispatch would be broke overnight if they
had such fines.

11. this is the rove/cheney/bu$h* method of media manipulation
no they were just following J. Goebbels big lie theory.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."

3 years from now Fox will have a docu-drama of Eric Cantor fighting the liberals off with
his hand gun as Al Franken and Keith Olbermann try to storm Eric's child care center.

12. it's true.. a random ReThuglicker fired a gun at the window. a 38 wont go too far thru thick glass
i have a 38 special, fires 38 too, the 38 special +P can have 1500 fps and ~500 foot pounds of impact. the regular 38 is a pop gun round..not impressive at all, store front glass is hard and thick

the message is 'go ahead no one will prosecute...we're all Nazi's on this bus'

His Campaign headquarters isn't in his district? Clearly he doesn't care about his district.

20. Maybe A Celebrity Could Beat Cantor
Otherwise this district is so gerrymandered that a chopped liver sandwich with an R after it would be elected. I doubt the office is in his district, but you don't even have to live in a district to run and represent a district--a silly law to me. Cantor raised alot of money. For someone to beat him, they would have to have a "BIG" name and alot of money.

16. Getting closer to the truth
<John Murray, a spokesman for Cantor, said at no time did Cantor say the bullet was meant for him.>

Oh please ..... Cantor spoke of threats to him for being Jewish and that he had one of his office windows shot out.

<The building is used by political consultants to Cantor. He has a campaign office there and, according to police,
occasionally uses for meetings the first-floor room where the bullet landed.>

BTW was the building in Cantor's district or was it out of it?
