So are you planning on sitting out this November's election? |
|
The health care bill doesn't contain most of what we wanted. And you're pissed off. Me too.
So I'll tell you what. Let's stay pissed off this coming November and stay home to show the Democratic Party how mad we are. And by doing so, we'll end up screwing ourselves beyond the Republican's wildest dreams.
No matter how mad you are, do you really want the Republicans and their lunatic allies to gain one ounce more power?
IMO, the Democratic Party, for the most part, sucks. They passed a bill that is a start and they may or may never be able to improve it. But is there any doubt in your mind that a Republican majority would do everything possible to hack away at this bill and take us back to the dark ages?
You've got seven months to let go of your anger, show up at the polls, and keep the barbarians out of power. Try to start cooling down now. Sit out the election, and you are giving aid and comfort to those who hate us, and want to take away whatever little we have left.

14. I have a good feeling about it... |

...although, in truth, I live in Humboldt County where the pot culture is strong, and might be completely misjudging the mood in the south and the interior. But my sense is that Proposition 215 really paved the way for changing attitudes among Californians, and lots of people who might have thought legalization not so good an idea have seen that the sky didn't fall, crime didn't become ubiquitous, and school children didn't turn into zombie stoners overnight.
I'm cautiously hopeful.

they are pushing the Republican Party to the right of Attila the Hun---Democrats have to get mobilized to keep them out of power. The GOP are showing disdain for any kind of Moderation--this is not good for the country.
Democrats, get moving. Overtime we WILL get our party straightened out. If you want to Primary those Democrats who refused to vote with our Party, do it. Show support for those Democrats who supported HCIR. Get fired up and do not stop.

13. Actions count. The act of not voting is a vote for the person you want the least to win. |
|
If you vote, it takes 2 votes to undo your vote. 1 vote to neutralize it. 1 vote to put one up in the win column.
Sure, you are pissed and want to punish the Democratic Party. It is a valid argument. But that doesn't mean you can put up a bumper sticker and say,
Don't blame me. I didn't vote for the SOB
If you don't vote for someone with your ballot, you voted agaist them with your ass.
You want to protest, vote for a different candidate, then write the Democratic Candide and the party and tell them why. Otherwise, they won't know and won't care.
Another reason to vote.
There is usually more than one issue up for voters. Even if you are pissed at Democrats, local, county, and state candidates did not vote for the Health Care Bill. They will decide issues that are important to you and affect your life.
Another reason to vote.
In our winner take all system, at this time in our history, either the Democrats or Republicans will be in power. There simply is no alternative. The party will make decisions on literally thousands of issues. Who will make decisions that come closer to what you want them to do?

|
I will go and cast my vote for Reid who is not the most exciting candidate but who did, AFICS, try very hard to get a PO into the Senate bill and who did express some pissed offness at the administration for ordering him to blow Lieberman. However, my vote will not be likely to keep him in his seat. I believe it's in the realm of possibilities he could still win this election but the chance is very small. Otherwise, I have a Republican House rep who is guaranteed to win back his seat regardless of the fact that I will vote for any Dem opposing him or will vote 'none of the above' if he is unopposed.
I'm sure our current Republican governor will lose his primary race which, of course, I don't get a vote in. I will be voting for Reid's son who is the Democratic candidate who will be opposing whoever the Republican nominee turns out to be.
All that said, I will say any more push to the right by the Democrats and we will soon be the right wing party of people who can spell correctly and avoid racial epithets.

Yes, the Democrats suck. And we really are stuck with a choice between the lesser of two evils.
Giving the party of Republican lunatics any more power is like putting a loaded gun to your head. Is that enough psychological motivation to make you get out and vote for a Dem?

69. No. I always vote. Always. |
|
So....no. I will not relinquish my right to have a say in how my local, state and federal government is run by pouting because the pony I got wasn't the right color.

75. The mantra of George W. Bush, Cheney, Rove and Condy seems to have resonated with you |
|
to the point that you are repeating it on a Democratic forum -"Sit out the election, and you are giving aid and comfort to those who hate us, and want to take away whatever little we have left." Professing to hate Republicans while channeling their rhetoric verbatim should qualify you for ironic post of the year award. Liberals will not be taking advice from someone as confused as you seem to be. The more "Democrats" try to position the blame for what's going to happen in November on liberals instead of the pathetic miscalculations of the party leaders the more liberals will decide to stay home.

79. Voters sit on their hands at their own peril. |

It took Virginia's new Governor (Bob McConnell) and new Attorney General (Ken Cuccinelli) about 5 seconds to overturn LGBT rights in the state.
I hope anybody considering boycotting the November election keeps the above in mind.

I will not, however, continue to give people my vote simply due to the D next to their name. Flame away. My time, efforts and money will go to truly progressive candidates. PDAmerica.org. It's worth the time to check out.
And your choice of words "aid and comfort to those who hate us" makes this liberal's stomach heave.

Look, I vote. Always. Some jerks doing a mediocre job and delivering a half baked reform bill is a reason to vote, not a reason to 'sit it out'.

Now is the time to go out & vote and show the TeaKlanners they are THE MINORITY!!!
I can't in good conscience not stand up. I cannot not stand up for those they would spit on, be it the poor, women, hispanic, blacks, those with a different sexual orientation, my mother, my grandmothers, my father, my grandfathers, the gypsies, the Jews, the Muslims, the downtrodden.
And you shouldn't either!!!!
