What if the Internet had been in use when Reagan was shot in 1981?
I'll bet the freepers and wingnuts would have been in a frenzy locking and loading. Of course they would have been labeling Hinkley a loony leftist. And I'll bet they would have tried to shoot Jody Foster too.

:scared:

1. Really?
And your assumptions are based on what presented or linked evidence?

5. Wow, you get annoyed by this? It's rhetorical. It's not an accusation or anything.
But you, of course, know that already.

15. You demand proof for a hypothetical situation?
Kinda hard to provide, no? Some might say impossible.

3. Neil Bush would have had to explain why he was scheduled to dine with

Hinkley's brother the night after the assassination attempt.

17. Actually, there is video of a shocked and dismayed John Chancellor reading the story on the
nightly news, but that was the end of it.

It just vanished, and no one ever thought to ask him about that amazing coincidence.

My friends journalism prof at the U of M in Missoula, Nathanial Blumberg, was also the Dean of the Dept.

Anyway, after he retired from the U of M he launched an on line website on the media, and he calls the Neil bush/Scott Hinkley dinner date the day after Reagan was shot story the most under reported story of the 20th century.

He's right. Here's his site.

6. Reminds me of an old (very old) SNL skit
From the early years - What If

The one I remember was, What if Eleanor Roosevelt could fly.

You know, it's an interesting thought. What if the internet had been established in time for the 1980 Reagan election? How would things have changed?

7. Poppy Bush's involvement wouldn't have been concealed as easily as it was.
Though I suspect there would have been some posts here almost immediately saying "Dude, you can't be serious!11! You can't POSSIBLY believe the Bush Crime Family could EVER be involved in anything like that !!!11!"

9. But not like it is today
They would have all hooked up on the Internet and loaded up to race each other to see who could shoot the most liberals.

10. It was in use (actually it was in use 12 years before the attempt)
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?safe=off&q=Reagan&btnG=Search&as_mind=1&as_minm=1&as_miny=1981&as_maxd=1&as_maxm=1&as_maxy=1982&as_drrb=b&sitesearch=

Unfortunately that event wasn't mentioned.

Of course prior to the internet (as we knew it) they had access to HAM/CB/Shortwave radios, newsletters and magazines.

12. Yeah, that's true that they were all still yakking away on their CB radio's in 81
Probably not so much the HAM radio with the teabagger crowd. You actually had to have a license to operate a HAM radio, and those idiots probably would have failed the test.

14. GHWB would have been arrested,
his demon spawn would have languished, shamed and marginalized,

and the world would have been a much better place.

16. At least he would have to answer why he worked so hard to release a known terrorist
He'd have to explain why he knew about the bombing of a civilian airliner ahead of time as CIA chief and did absolutely nothing about it. He'd have to explain why, as president, he ordered his ambassador to Argentina to effect the release of a known and convicted terrorist responsible for that airliner bombing even after his own AJ told him the guy was a terrorist (as if he didn't already know). He'd have to explain why he helped the aforementioned terrorist enter the US, and why he helped that same terrorist stay in the US after said terrorist was about to be deported back to Argentina. He'd have to explain why that known and convicted terrorist walks the streets of Miami to this day a free man.
