God is love: Gays, criminals shouldn’t be given funerals, says Catholic bishop
The bishop of the city of Tursi has declared homosexuals should not receive communion or be given funerals.

In an interview published last Friday on pontifex.roma.it, a website created to ‘prove and defend Christianity’, Bishop Francesco Nolè declared that ‘irregulars’ such as criminals and homosexuals should not be given communions or funerals. This, he said, is not to be seen as discrimination, but rather as ‘healthy medicine’ for those close to the person: “Our behaviour, which could be perceived as mean or cruel, in the long-run often heals and evangelises.”

He added: “We must have the courage and tact, perhaps first informing the individual, or the families if he has passed, that it’s not possible to administer a communion or funeral. We would perhaps pray for his soul, which must be done.”

2. But no problem with pedophile priests and the hierarchy
who aided and abetted them.

The Catholic Church is so clueless that they don't understand what reality is anymore.

10. That's fine. In a cold climate, just float them out on an ice floe & be done with it.

5. I just want to make sure I'm clear on this.
Molesting/raping children in your care, even disabled ones = That's just fine and the church will protect you and give you a nice funeral.

Consensual loving relationship with another adult of the same gender = you're too tainted, sorry. Should teach your loved ones a lesson. *Maybe* we'll pray for your soul if we're feeling magnanimous.

26. Yeah, I'm afraid that seems to be exactly the message
Though you forgot their campaign to conflate "pedophile" with "gay".

11. Ancient RC tradition had bunches of people cruelly buried outside sacred precincts...
... which means a lot to believers and their families. If your loved one committed suicide or was gay, there would be a powerful incentive to cover it up if at all possible.

Personally I think all are equal in Death, but then I'm not a bishop -- and I believe this is as "mean and cruel" as he says it is not.

When Cardinal Ratzinger was elected Pope, the Church took a hard right turn back to the Middle Ages, where such bishops would have had no compunction about burning me and my family at the stake after forced false confessions. Any respect I ever had for the institution (I was raised to be tolerant of all religions) has pretty much evaporated.

It's past time for secular law to come down hard on these men who think they are above the laws of men and woman.

Hekate

The bishop needs to STFU.

15. Who the fuck needs their "prayers?"
Besides they seem ineffectual -- they prayed against Obama and HCR after all and God apparently told them to stick it.

It simply blows me away when these freeper type Christians act like they are gonna ask their invisible friend for something so you better WATCH OUT! They just make religion seem so childish.

22. Fucking Catholics
I am so glad I have recovered from the religious cults of the world. History has proven that belief in a god has been justification for many injustices, wars and murder, yet we give them tax breaks.

24. Matthew Chapter 25
I guess the "good" Bishop must have skipped the day this was covered in school:

31
14 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne,
32
and all the nations 15 will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33
He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34
Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,
36
naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'
37
Then the righteous 16 will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?
38
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?
39
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'
40
And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'
41
17 Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42
For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
43
a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'
44
18 Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?'
45
He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.'
46
And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

29. But now, now, we need to practice TOLERANCE
:sarcasm:

Let's see, they want me to die unshriven so I'll spend eternity in hell. And I'm supposed to say, "Oh, well, that's just their belief. I have to respect that."

Fuck that. That religion sucks.

31. This is appalling beyond belief. I've been of 2 minds about the Catholic church
because I know that the majority of members don't hold these views. But at what point will the members say enough is enough?
