A Bismarck folk singer is making some buzz with her song about a state politician’s second charge of spousal abuse.

Kris Kitko wrote “You Can Beat Your Wife” late last week, one week after Rep. Dave Weiler, R-Bismarck, was charged with assaulting his wife for the second time in less than a year.

Weiler pleaded not guilty March 12.

The chorus of the song, which is available as a free download on her Web site, www.kriskitko.com, and can be seen as a video on www.youtube.com, is “You can beat your wife just once not twice/ So you better get it right the first time/ It should take one whippin’ – one good try/ You can beat your wife just once not twice.”

The “once not twice” reference is to high-ranking state Republicans who were reluctant to call for Weiler’s resignation after he was charged March 12.
