Right Wing Radio Falters
Oops...looks more and more like radio stations who hung their collective hats on the one-trick pony called "conservative radio" are feeling the November effect. Ratings came out yesterday in the top three markets.

In Chicago, WLS (Limbaugh, Hannity, Wade and Roma, Levin) fell from a 4.1 (average percentage of the 12+ audience who listened more than 15 minutes at a shot) to a 3.3 in the last year. WIND (Ingraham, Medved, Savage, Hewitt, Prager) lost almost half of their already-microscopic audience in the last three months alone, 1.2 to a 0.7.

In Los Angeles, KABC (O'Reilly, Hannity, Elder, Levin) fell to a 1.8 - we believe the first time that station ever dropped below a 2 share - from a 2.5 three months ago. KRLA (same lineup as WIND - same owners) is mired at 0.8.

New York's WABC fared better, maintaining a 3.5 share, which has been their average since the 80s.

San Francisco's ratings will be out any moment - it'll be interesting to see how KSFO did. That's always been a fascinating station. Total right wing nutbags led by Melanie Morgan, but created totally out of the fact that KGO wanted to make its own competition when wingnut radio was emerging (KSFO and KGO are both run by the same management, both owned by ABC). We'll see how the format held up in the Bay Area within a day or two.

3. We can hope
But don't count the nut bags out yet. They still have more damage to do. Of that we can be sure.

4. Well, since every polling outfit shows the public siding with the Dems...
...and also show the public is sick to death of this fucking war, RW talkers, and their pro-war spin, has become unlistenable to people.

5. If I had to pick just one of those losers to go off the air
I'm picking Michael Weiner...I mean Savage.

He spews so much vitriolic hatred.

6. Blessing to my eyes--thanks for good news.

It will be fun to hear Limbaugh distort this data in his inimitable way.

12. It's so predictable...
They'll attribute it to radio stations "caving" in to all the "liberal screaming" about reinstating the fairness doctrine.

7. Ok, but what about the ratings for "progressive" radio?
Pacifica, Air America, et al? Are they up?

8. People are sick of being told that up is down and black is white
It's pretty infuriating when some right-wing blowhard is telling you something that is just obviously not true. And the worse things get, the more ridiculous the lies.

EVERYONE's fed up.

9. Air America already felt the squeeze. It's not convervative radio, it's shrill crapola.
Hopefully, the consuming public is getting a bellyful.

10. The best part of this is that there is 0 market competition for them.
They are failing on their own. There are no Left Wing competitors out there bringing them down. Clear Channel, (or Right Wing Propaganda Machine as it's known in these parts) has all but monopolized AM radio in my neck of the woods. What this means is simply is that no one is buying their bullshit anymore. You hear that Hannity, you fucking maggot? Levin? Hear the crickets? Your all a bunch of dick-less scumbags, and even as you enjoy total control of the airwaves, you can't break a 3.5 market share. Pathetic, and I think it's fucking fantastic!

11. Here's The Ratings...
http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRatings/

Some quick 12+ notes...the only numbers available online. Many stations focus on 25-54...and those numbers are only available to Arbitron subscribers.

Note: Air America/Progressive Talk Affiliates in Italics

New York: (5/1/07)

WABC-AM ABC Radio 3.5
WWRL-AM Access.1 Communications 0.7
WMCA-AM Salem Media <buzzer...No Show>

Los Angeles: No Winter Numbers Reported Yet (those will be out later today)

Chicago:

WGN-AM Tribune 5.1
WLS-AM ABC Radio 3.3
WCPT-AM NewsWeb 0.8 (up from 0.7)
WIND-AM Salem 0.7 (Down from 1.2)

Detroit:

WJR-AM ABC Radio 5.5
WDTW-AM Clear Channel 0.7 (up from 0.5)
WDTK-AM Salem <buzzer...No Show>

More markets will be coming out in the next couple days...

FYI...a year ago WWRL had a 0.0 rating...before they switched to AAR...WLIB, the former AAR flagship dropped from 1.0 to .05 and has recovered to 0.8.

Reading ratings are a tricky game. Not all stations cover the entire survey area and many markets there are more surveys focused in minority areas and are "weighted" into the results.

The story behind the stories here is the deal AAR recently closed with Westwood One that could help the network gain both affiliates and advertisers and might help this network get a firmer footing and start growing again. Also, the ongoing financial messes at ABC and Clear Channel cloud the future of medium.

Thank you for posting this.

Cheers...
