By some measures, Afghanistan War now longer than Vietnam War.

Sad but true. Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was passed Aug. 7, 1964 and the Paris Peace Accords were signed Jan. 27, 1973. That's a period of 8 years, 5 months and 21 days.

Operation Enduring Freedom began on Oct. 7, 2001. That was 8 years, 5 months and 21 days ago.

1. Yeah, I was thinking of that timespan this morning
The difference is that when you have an all-volunteer military supported by volunteer mercenaries (Xe/Blackwater)no one really cares much how long it goes on.

People pay their taxes, buy groceries, pay their utility bills and move on. We aren't close to getting out of Afganistan for a couple more years.

Unlimited amount of money to save the military's self-esteem, those of us who aren't too big to fail are just mostly on our own.

4. long war(s)
Americans were dying in Vietnam before the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, absolutely right. It's hard to say that war began on a certain date, although the GOT Resolution is generally considered the "official" start of U.S. involvement.
