Poll question: Have you decided who you'll vote for? How flexible are you about the decision? |
|
Edited on Wed May-02-07 08:18 AM by NightWatcher
Please do not say who you support. I simply want to know if you have decided who you will vote for/support in the Democratic primary.
Once again, please do not say who you support. I'd like to just get an idea of people's mindset and do not want to turn this into a battle of the candidate supporters.
For the record, I cannot decide, it's too early, but be assured that I will support the Democratic Candidate who wins the primary.

5. After he wins the Nobel Peace Prize, he might.... |
|
... although I doubt he'll enter the race. I think he's content to make a real difference outside of the electoral process.

2. I too will support the DEM nominee |
|
but waiting/hoping for Gore to enter the race.
That said, we have an amazing group of DEMs to choose from if he doesn't!

8. I asked that we not reference them by name. |

I dont want this to turn into a "my candidate is better than your candidate" debate. I only want to know if you have made up your mind.

Ridiculously so. Check polls from Spring of 2003 to get a sense of just how meaningless polling is at this point. (I believe the clear leaders were Lieberman and Gephardt in several polls.)

7. Wow. I was talking about this |

yesterday -- wondering where the polls stood at this time last pre-election. Unbelievable that Lieberman was doing so well. I was a Deaniac :)

6. The MS state primary will be irrelevant |
|
so no need for more to make a primary choice, but I will be 100% behind whomever the dems nominate. I think those of us around the country might want to pay a little bit of attention to state and national races in our own states to ensure the next dem president has a nice comfortable cushion in the senate and congress.

10. I know the metric I will use, but uncertain who lives up to that metric |
|
Only candidates that openly and unambiguously support full, equal rights for gay people (including full, equal marriage) will get my vote in the primary, period. That much is not open for negotiation. So far, none of the frontrunners meet this requirement.
After that, I will look at other issues that are important to me, including the Iraq occupation, foreign outsourcing and helping the poor. So far, none of the frontrunners impress me on any of these issues, either.

an open mind. At this time, my goal is to be an active participant in the grass roots efforts to move the party to the progressive left. I'm interested in how each candidate responds to that effort.

What does that say about the current pool of hopefuls?

who says it is far to early to even be thinking about it. Look at polling from four years ago, look at polling in 1991, for Pete's sake. Who knows what will happen six months from now, or even tomorrow? While I respect those who favor one candidate or another, it's a huge mistake (even if your current preference turns out to be the nominee) to lock yourself in with a single choice at this point. I also keep saying that you need to be at least somewhat mindful of who the Republican nominee might be. Specific match-ups of this R vs that D, as compared to some other R vs a different D, will make all the difference in the world as to how the campaign plays out.
Of course, no matter who our nominee turns out to be, you can be assured that the Republican nominee will wail and screech about how we'll all be immediate targets of an invasion on the part of Al Qaeda or worse if he or she is actually elected. But each and every possible nominee of ours has specific strengths and liabilities, and so we simply need to be resigned to having to deal with the particular lies that will be told about our nominee.

Lots of Clinton WH experience on one ticket.
I think a great many DU'ers would like to see Gore run. I think many (like myself) are still holding out hope he changes his mind.
