(Shhh--don't tell the enemy that we're staying there forever) |
|
bush has been rambling incoherently about how setting a time to leave Iraq, say, this October, would be the same as surrendering to the 'enemy', and that the 'enemy' would simply prepare to take over the government there as soon as we're gone.
But in reality, bush plans to have our troops there until the twelfth of never, and that's a long, long time, so don't tell the enemy or they might take advantage of us, y'see, right now the Democrats are sending the enemy a signal that we'll soon be leaving, and the enemy is planning on surrendering.
So make sure you don't let it slip to the enemy that we HAVE NO artificial timetable for withdrawal any time soon, or ever, and they'll be defeated, and we will win the big game by simply staying on the field forever.
Makes sense if you just let it.

1. Maybe, unlike the vast majority of Americans, |

the Iraqis actually read the PNAC doctrine posted online.
It's not like this is any big secret.

And things will get a lot worse for the Iraqis in the short term. Particularly certain kinds of Iraqis. I think we should pull out, but let's not kid ourselves about what is going to happen afterwards. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

8. I suppose I'd be callous to suggest letting the Iraqis deal with it. |

Usually the U.S. sells all sides arms, so we make out like bandits either way.

16. more of an ironic comment to the OP than a dismissal of things to come. |
|
looks rather chaotic right now and the Decider's refusal to come to terms with what he has unleashed is only making matters worse.
Of course I can see the media piling on the Dems, should a withdrawal of any sort occur, with a "the pResident was right, I told ya so" campaign at the ensuing bloodbath.

When you realize that the real purpose of invading Iraq and deposing Saddam was to gain bases and a foothold in the Middle East. Oil was only a bonus feature. We've been looking for a new base of operations ever since the Saud's put limits on what we could do and for how long we could occupy their bases. Counting on a "cake walk" and a hero's welcome they thought that in gratitude we'd be allowed to set up bases where ever we wanted.
Shows the complete ignorance of the Islamic history and mentality held by President Bush and his administration prior to the invasion. Seems like most of them still think that we will and should be granted quite possession of those bases. NOT!

Iraq's not just about oil, or even revenge. It's about control of the Middle East. If you haven't read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man," it's a great book that explains a lot.

|
I would think they would get the hint when the streets are void of servicemen and there is a lot of business at the airport, for example! Does he really think we could just sneak out of Iraq and the "dark side" won't ever know it???

The message from the occupiers is that we shall never leave?
With that message, there remains but one recourse for the invaded: fight to the death.
With a message like that from the Congress -- that we plan on leaving -- there opens another course for the Iraqis and instills hope that their country will one day be free, and that instituting a peaceful government is worth working for.
So, it's either fight the invaders to the bloody end, or work to build their own new government, in peace, free from outside control.
