I do think the government is fascist both by nature and design.

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the government has made it perfectly clear that they hold We, the People in contempt.

16. Well, a lot of it seems geared toward serving large corporations over human citizens
so you might have a valid point.

That said, I KNOW that not all law enforcement works for the powers that screw. But, it is an informed citizenry that helps the good guys in law enforcement and justice from being overrun by the bad apples.

you can no longer refer to the 'spirit' of a nation, then? It would seem to me to be the same thing.

And defending my original statement as literal, rather than figurative, would be very do-able, in my opinion, in the same context. :)

Admittedly, I'm more ontological and epistemic than semantic. Pretty weird for an English/Sociology major, eh?

11. While I support legitimate law enforcement, and understand some of the perils,
ah, no. We do not just look away when things are happening in our 'hoods.

There are some bad guys working in law enforcement and I am happy there are so many ways to expose rogue behavior/abuse. That said, we also have an obligation to keep watch over the watchdogs, or more of the bad ones get further along in their agendas.

Sorry, I understand a bit about the importance of tactical reasons for secrecy, but when an operation is big, and noisy, it's just plain silly to think they are sneaking up on anybody and it is just some witnesses who are tipping off the suspects.

Cali is right; it's their job to control the info, and so far, they seem to be doing that. Witnesses to actual action are not telling the bad guys anything they haven't already noticed.

because in a day or two, we're going to get WIDELY different versions of what actually went down. If law enforcement doesn't want to be painted as the oppressive bullies that the militia folks paint them out to be, the best way to combat that is with transparency.

32. I participated in two threads on this last night. Since it was 'breaking news' in the way
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 09:40 AM by peacetalksforall
one of the threads was introduced, including a link to a local news station with video and reporting on what was known ----- I expected that it would be over soon and I searched for it on national tv sites.

How could we know that we were to be quiet?

Quiet could be a ploy. We have come out of 11 years of not trusting our leaders, military, media, appointees, contractors. We still don't know if we can trust anyone in that group.

What are we supposed to do. The entire theme in threads like this - is to share what people know and the very same scenario of silencing us could be for horrible reasons.

I think of all the victims of the WTC and Pentagon who were silenced.

It is not clear. It's all about trust.

There are a few of us who trust Homeland Security - thieves of our privacy, advocates of duct tape. This is a very complicated coutnry - what with the BFEE and the banking/federal reserive kingpins and death contractors and the privatization congresspeople. What per cent of lobbyists do we trust? We couldn't trust that Bethesda was running right. Has torture really stopped in the secret prisons that no on talks about?

This is all being done to us. People want to trust.

I have a feeling of trust in this event, whatever it is.

I think your request/suggestion to us is extremely complicated. There could be a time when we can only trust a certain percent of us - as has happened to many people in many countries. We don't march together anymore.

Who are we supposed to trust? The FBI that assissted in the set up against Clinton in Arkansas and Washington? The CIA regime change experts?

Who are the take-out artists and who is to be trusted?

58. Message control has to be part of the law enforcement tactical plan
these days. I understand your point, and when I was in the media, we would embargo some stories that would affect the outcome of a raid. But even though that was just 10 years ago, so much has changed since then. Journalists that follow the "Prime Directive" don't really exist anymore - or they're completely overshadowed by the scores of MSM and "citizen-journalists" fighting to use the media to influence outcomes & no real reporting get done anymore.
