As incredible as it seems I think Bush just lost the Freeper vote
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1826729/posts?q=1&;page=51

It appears that Gonzales is advocating some really strong "anti-gun/terrorism" measure and the FReeps are screaming for his and Bush's head.

Some mighty fine reading on that thread...

29. And these knuckle-draggers don't realize that they'd come after them eventually.
When ANYONE in the U.S. loses rights -- NO MATTER WHAT COLOR THEY ARE -- EVERYONE loses rights.

Were the freepers really so stupid as to think that a fascist party like the republicans were going to allow a bunch of STUPID SHEEP to walk around carrying guns in the long run?

The republicans in power were using them, and they've been too tied up in their hatred of "evil Dems" to see it. The republicans took away their jobs, their rights to a trial by jury -- or even to talk to a lawyer -- if ANYONE fingered them for a crime and decided they were "enemy combatants, their right to NOT be evesdropped on by the government, and spent the government into a HUGE hole, and the freepers just cheered the republicans on.

Republicans have taken away every right Americans ever had, but left guns in the hands of their cheering squads until the last minute, and threw the "right to life-ers" a bone or two here & there. They never saw the erosion of their rights coming, when we kept screaming about it.

too bad everyone has things they wish to remain out of the public's view, and certainly don't want law enforcement to look too closely. I think of plenty of people who would feel infringed upon if they were forced to admit to drinking while driving, hunting w/o a license, driving on a revoked license, beating a spouse, polluting the air, water and landscape w/all kinds of stuff.

No one can take rights away, they have to be sacrificed, given away. Once they have hit the recycle bin, you aren't likely to get those rights and privledges back. The corruption of power becomes an absolute.

for so long now, some of them will never find their way home. Some of them, although it's way too many lies and wayyy too many crimes later, are actually starting to pull their heads out of the grass and see they are about to go off of a cliff.

We need to offer them guidance and assurance, not ridicule and shame. We save that for the really stupid ones. The ones who have looked up, looked around, then buried their heads back in the grass and grazed over the cliff. Those are the ones we can point and laugh at as they are going down.

64. We know he has ONE
Saddam's sidearm pistol...

The sidearm has made its way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Sources say that the military had the pistol mounted after the soldiers seized it from Saddam and that it was then presented to the President privately by some of the troops who played a key role in ferreting out the old tyrant. Though it was widely reported at the time that the pistol was loaded when they grabbed Saddam, Bush has told visitors that the gun was empty—and that it is still empty and safe to touch. "He really liked showing it off," says a recent visitor to the White House who has seen the gun. "He was really proud of it."

He's nuts. And he's ultra right-wing. But he's not a conservative.

True conservatives actually sound sane compared to this group. Go look up recent writings by William F Buckley (a true conservative) and you'll be amazed at how relatively sane conservatives sound compared to the Republicans in power in recent years.

If you get into it, there are a whole mess of sub-groups of Republicans. The true conservatives are potentially the most sane of the lot. Of course, the neo-cons are totally off their rockers.

I don't think Gonzo, or anyone in the Bush Administration,
should have the power to deny someone a gun--based on
some arbitrary list that they concoct.

We've all seen the secrecy and suspicious nature of the "no fly list".
You don't know who is on it, why they're on it and you can't
be removed from it.

This would be a serious breach of the second amendment, if they did this.

Can't they see it? Junior is slowly tightening the noose around America's
neck. We will bow to him or suffer the consequences. He all ready has the
power to label any US citizen "an enemy combatant" then detain them indefinitely
without attorney access or right to a fair trial.

Now, they want to have the freedom to disarm people. It's no big shocker
to anyone here at DU. Just one more fascist rung on BushCo's ladder of
dictatorship.

Junior had to dis his "base" last. You've got to have a "base" to rationalize
and prop up all of the evil that leads up to the dictatorship.

Messing with gun rights means that the gloves are totally off for Junior. He
doesn't give a damn about his "base" or even if he has a base. He doesn't care
if the entire country is against him, because he knows he has the power to do
whatever he pleases.

In my opinion, this action signals really troubled times ahead for this country.

Everyone is about to realize what we've been saying for several years.

24. Senator Lautenberg introduced the bill.
http://lautenberg.senate.gov/documents/domestic/TerrorGap/index.cfm

"Closing the "Terror Gap" - Terrorists Access to Guns

On Thursday, April 26, 2007, Senator Lautenberg introduced legislation to prohibit terrorist suspects from purchasing firearms, mirroring an Administration plan released yesterday. The bill seeks to close the “terror gap” in federal gun law by giving the Attorney General the power to block gun sales to terror suspects. Under current federal gun law, there is no provision to deny suspected terrorists from purchasing a firearm....

Sen. Lautenberg’s measure – the “Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2007” – specifically:

Provides the Attorney General with discretionary authority to deny the transfer of a firearm or the issuance of a firearm or explosives license or permit when a background check reveals that the purchaser is a known or suspected terrorist and the Attorney General reasonably believes that the person may use a firearm or explosives in connection with terrorism;
Includes due process safeguards that afford an affected person an opportunity to challenge a denial by the Attorney General; and
Protects the sensitive information upon which terrorist watch list listings are based."

48. Self-contradicting fascist nonsense.
"Includes due process safeguards that afford an affected person an opportunity to challenge a denial by the Attorney General; and
Protects the sensitive information upon which terrorist watch list listings are based."

So, you can challenge a denial, on grounds that you are not a terrorist. But the list says you are, and you cannot look at the information that says that you are, for security purposes, thus undermining the only way to disprove the allegation.

Hell, even McCarthy, in the witch hunts of the 50s, allowed people to know who accused them.

That means anyone who chains themselves to a fence protesting a nuclear power plant will not be allowed to have their second ammendment rights, as well as their friends and family.

Your sentiment here and your sig line seem to be at odds. You obviously recognize that we're locked in a global war of survival, yet you're prepared to knock over our <u>(continually victorious) Commander-In-Chief in the middle of said war.

Do you think thats wise?

I don't. I disagree with Gonzalez on this one, of course, but seriously, we're fighting a war here, and now is not the time to be talking about voting our CiC out of office, ESPECIALLY since there are troops in combat this very second.

57. Idiots!
Many DUers called this years ago. For the Neo-Cons to solidify their power grab they would be the ones to try to take guns away from citizens. Not Democrats! Sad, sad little Pukes.

Get this bunch out of government.

We're on the same page there. For years, I've had a vague suspicion that Bush was functioning as a means to keep conservatives quiet while he consolidated powers to be handed over to Hillary.

hilarious! Its all a conspiracy to hand the keys to the world to Hillary Clinton...hahahaha
