Hacker of Obama’s Twitter Account Seized
Submitted by Amandeep Dhaliwal on Sun, 03/28/2010 - 17:37

Police has reportedly released the French hacker who had supposedly hacked President Obama’s Twitter account. The 25-year-old, Frenchman was jobless, lived with his parents and committed the crime under the pseudonym "Hacker Croll". He was nabbed after a long investigation that was carried out in cooperation with US agents from the FBI.

He was queried by the police in the central city of Clermont-Ferrand and has been ordered to appear in court again in the same city on 24 June.

The source said that accused explained how he did it and he is not a genius.

Prosecutor Jean-Yves Coquillat added, "He was a young man spending time on the internet. He acted as a result of a bet, out of the defiance of the hacker. He is the sort who likes to claim responsibility for what he has done”.

Hacking into a database is considered a crime in France and accounts for a maximum two-year imprisonment.

The police said that the hacker had attacked the Twitter accounts of many other famous US personalities. He had also tried to hack Facebook pages and email accounts run by Google and other providers.

According to the police, the hacker did not possess any technological expertise. He had simply guessed people's passwords.

According to the police, the French hacker was known to police who had been involved in small scams.

Last year in July, the FBI had notified the French authorities of his presence on French territory.

6. Ah, no. Sentencing is not supposed to be a mechanism for revenge
This is prank-level stuff...Twitter is not a secure system, doesn't pretend to be, and the use of an easily guessable password to a twitter account is just a demonstration of how UNimportant it is. this is about as serious as crashing a showbiz party by carrying out a particularly good celebrity impersonation.

3. So he'll get 3 hots and a cot for 2 years away from Mom and Dad
and it might even be a good deal for him at this point, especially since he'll likely find people in prison who will teach him the basics of being a more competent hacker.

I hacked into one system, a hospital system so I could get lab values for critically ill patients sooner than 24 hours after the fact. I readily admitted it and told them they should have given access to nurses from day one.

They agreed.
