The Next Pope Should Have to Pass a CORI Check
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 06:11 PM by louis c
Well, at least a background check.

When Benedict was chosen, I criticized the selection because of his enlistment in the Nazi Army and his manning a German anti-aircraft gun in WWII. Now, I know he was just 17 years old at the time, but isn't that a dis-qualifier for a Pope? After all, he fought on the side of the anti-christ? Maybe it's not a dis-qualifier for every job application, but shouldn't the Pope be held to a slightly higher standard?

Now, we find out that as a Bishop, Benedict gave a slap on the wrist to a priest who sexually abused over 200 blind children in his care. The future Pope told the guilty priest to "make penance" and then allowed him to be reassigned to another church. Now, I agree that he didn't directly give the edict, but it was under his watch and with his knowledge.

What standard should we hold for the Pope? With the knowledge we now have, he couldn't drive a school bus or run a day care.

If a Superintendent of Schools helped cover-up this type of crime by a teacher, he would be facing jail time.

Again, how low should the standards be for a Pope?

It certainly casts doubt on that infallibility thing, doesn't it?

2. IMO, The Catholic Church is hovering up in the air, having gone off a cliff,
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 06:21 PM by KittyWampus
and is going to fall down to its demise at some point in my lifetime.

There may be a landholding shell of the Catholic Church left, but that's about it.

Edit- those in the Catholic Church who still want to make a difference will have to assemble under a new banner.

3. He did not enlist in the German Army
He was a member of the Hitler Jugend as requred by German Law He was drafted into the Luftwaffa antiaircraft organization in 1943. The criteria for elevation to Pope is the perview of the College of Cardinals. They and they alone make that decision. Send your recommendation to them.

That religion, which is based on blind faith, tells us that destiny is in God's hands, even though we have free will. Many Germans, of every age, fought the evil of Adolf Hitler, let me repeat that name, Adolf Hitler. You mean the all knowing Devinne supreme being, in his preparation for his word on earth, decided that he would start this Papal leader on his path to righteousness buy wearing the uniform that bore a swastika and follow the orders of a depraved dictator? Give me a break.

Here you go, chew on this article.

7. Why support your arguments with lies
the truth is sufficient to cast doubt on this papacy. He did not enlist in the German Army. He was a member of HJ which was iaw German law,he was drafted into the Luftwaffa AA corp. He deserted that organization in early 1945. If being drafted and serving is a crime, suppose you would damn all of those Americans drafted by LBJ to commit war crimes in Vietnam.

9. No, but it is a dis-qualifier for Pope
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 09:41 PM by louis c
And stop splitting hairs. He wore a uniform with a swastika on it. He served the anti-christ, Adolf Hitler. Maybe he can be forgiven for his human frailties, but the Pope? What the F##K, are you kidding me? Then, we find out, as a fully grown adult, he helped cover up crimes against children.

"What you do to the least of my children, you do unto me, sayeth the Lord".

And he's the God Damned Pope, for Christ's Sake, not the Ice Cream Man. Where do you draw the line and stop apologizing for him?

On edit. You're not comparing American soldiers to Nazi soldiers, are you? some soldiers act differently in war than others. however, wearing a Nazi uniform, drafted or not, should be a dis-qualifier for Pope. how God Damned low are you going to place the bar to be Pope? Being a Nazi was OK for someone who speaks for Jesus Christ on earth? We have to set the bar a tad higher than that.

10. Not splitting hairs
A postal clerk in Germany wore a swastika on his shirt, as did the game warden and the dog catcher. Like I said, there is enough truthful statements
out there to adequately condem the pope, no need to fabricate nonsense.

11. And the dog catcher, postal clerk and the like shouldn't be Pope
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 09:38 PM by louis c
Don't you get it. I'm not saying that a German who fought for Hitler should go to jail, or not have a job. I'm saying that a church that was part of the Inquisition in the middle ages and has a reputation of being anti-Semitic, shouldn't choose a former Nazi as it's spokesman for God.

Pope, not used car salesman. Pope. Say it a couple of times and maybe you'll get my point. The Pope.

For instance. Someone who once sold drugs might still be qualified to work in the DPW, but not head up the FBI.

Pope. get it. A Pope should never have been a Nazi. Never, ever, ever, ever. It's a dis-qualifier, and today, we know why we would have been better off, as Catholics, if we followed this policy.

any more than you can prove Jesus is the Son of God.

It's just that both of them fit the biblical descriptions. And we base our opinions on that evidence.

8. Yes and they should list Pope Benedict as a Sex Offender on the registries.
Really, some community around here with balls (or even just someone with photoshop and some web design experience and a lot of free time) should create a sex offender list and put all the catholic churchs on there along with the Pope.

16. If you work for the Catholic church in the US, you have to undergo a background check
A friend of mine is an organist. When he was offered the job to play the organ in the Catholic church, he had to go through Choice Point and had to give his fingerprints. He thought it highly humiliating for a part-time job as a musician, but he conducted the choir and could be around the children of his choir members. He passed, of course. But it still scared him.

The Heartthrob from the Vatican

By Jeff Israely/Rome

When Pope Benedict XVI touches down for his first papal visit in the United States next week, you may notice that he doesn't have the same onstage flair as his predecessor, John Paul II. But you may also begin to notice a very handsome man of the cloth never far from the pontiff's side. That would be Monsignor Georg Gänswein, the Pope's personal secretary, responsible for everything from deciding who gets to see Benedict, to keeping His Holiness on schedule, to discreetly handing him his papal reading glasses just before a homily or other public discourse. While he is the paradigm of discretion, others have taken liberties with his image. Fashion designer Donatella Versace said her Spring 2007 collection was inspired by Gänswein, confessing: "I was thinking of an austere, severe and ethical man. I find Father Georg's austerity very elegant."

Italians have taken notice of Gänswein, and nicknamed him "Bel Giorgio," which Americans might translate as: Gorgeous George. Paparazzi have snapped photos of him playing tennis in his tennis whites, while the Roman and Bavarian press eagerly report his bravura on the ski slopes and appearances at evening Church functions. Nevertheless, despite the glamour imposed on him by the celebrity press, the tall, athletic and dirty-blond Monsignor in his clerical black, concentrates on his pivotal but quiet job choreographing papal appearances. And that is how Americans will see him, in a supporting role buoyed by his scene-stealing good looks. ....

Pope Benedict Issues Formal Vatican Decree: A Smile Is Not a Sin

November 18, 2006

POPE BENEDICT AND MSGR. GANSWEIN, THE POPE’S DEVOTED PERSONAL SECRETARY

The New York Times published an article today that disclosed some of the jokes making their rounds about Pope Benedict and his secretary, Msgr. Georg Ganswein. This brief extract from the Times article describes some of those satirical moments:

Perhaps it is his good looks, or his work in the ever-so-serious Vatican, but for whatever reason, Msgr. Georg Gänswein, Pope Benedict XVI’s secretary, has suddenly found himself the butt of jokes in the Italian news media. ....

In a curious “non-response” to this growing wave of satire, the pope’s secretary told his radio audience that “the Vatican was not offended.” “We’re convinced that smiles bring religion closer to the people,” he said, “because a smile is never a sin.”

Pope is Wrong: This One’s Very Sinful.

In response to the Times article, Andrew Sullivan published this irreverent, biting criticism of the article (and the Pope) today on his Time Magazine blog, The Daily Dish:

“The NYT runs a very curious article today about Italian humor about the current Pope. None of the jokes cited seem to me to be very risque or even funny. The entire argument of the piece is undermined by lack of any real evidence that this pope is subject to any more ridicule than has historically been the case. Except of course for that photograph (see above, seated with Msgr. Georg Ganswein). It shows the actual source of the jokes circulating in the Vatican and elsewhere about this Prada-preferring, Gucci-wearing, high-drama German intellectual (Pope). The actual jokes – which the NYT won’t print – are about how good looking so many of the men are who surround Benedict, especially his personal assistant, Msgr. Georg Gänswein, shown holding the large phallic microphone in front of Benedict’s face. The Vatican gossip merchants call Georg 'Gay-Org.' He is inseparable from Benedict. And he surely is easy on the eyes. There is no evidence that Benedict has ever broken his vows of chastity; but there is no evidence that he is heterosexual either. Hence the gossip; hence the jokes. When you’re a Pope who declares that even closeted, chaste gay men cannot be priests, it’s pushing your luck to clothe yourself in Prada, bedeck your Pope-mobile with luxurious Natuzzi Italian white leather, and surround yourself with assistants who look like they strayed from the pages of 'L’Uomo Vogue.'

"Butch it up, sister. Or the jokes will only get louder.”
