Ugggggg! I just went to a friend's facebook and found an old friend in common

so I went to her page and requested to friend her. Guess what I found on her page Ugggggggg!!!!!!!!!! She is a fan of Glen Beck and Sarah Palin............ How can seemingly intelligent people really be a fan of those two? I honestly don't get it.

6. It seems to me that you have to be pretty callous and not too bright to be a

fan of Beck or Palin right now. It's as if there is an enlightened group, us, and the others who don't get it like the flat-earthers in times past and the religious zealots vs the science minded of the enlightenment. Not that we know everything far from it but just an awareness beyond our selves.

11. My friend's husband

is a Faux nut job. We used to be quite close but now he regards my with contempt because I am "one of them". He generally blurts out some ridiculous talking point, I respond with a condescending/pitying look and he goods to the basement to watch more Faux.

His wife realizes that he has turned into an angry man who is obsessed. She can do nothing.

12. I feel your pain

I don't have a facebook account, but my husband does. Several of my wingnut, teabagging, knuckle-dragging relatives are 'friends' of Beck, Palin, Rush, and numerous other bottom feeders. My dear husband thought we should just 'hide' them to avoid family conflict, but I insisted he block or defriend them. I have had it with these people. The only thing I have in common with them is a blood line, and I'd change that if I could.

The solution I've found is just to not talk politics with them - we won't convince each other and it just degenerates. I've actually grown pretty close to a friend from high school, but we've agreed to disagree when it comes to Obama. That said, I did de-friend one person when he made a remark about "homosexual acts on the Senate floor" = I can tolerate disagreement, but not homophobia.

In fact, one of my nieces has joined a couple of those "I Really Miss George W Bush" type groups. Her parents, predictably, are Fundy kooks. She herself is only about 18...Freshman in college. Doesn't know a hell of a lot about life and probably got her screwy political ideas from her parents. I feel sort of sorry for her and give her a lot of slack because she is, after all, ignorant of the ways of the world.

But I do keep hoping she gets a more Liberal education in college. ;)
