Seriously - is the American right as stupid as the rest of the World see them? |
|
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 10:22 PM by TheBigotBasher
Do people really exist that see the Obama administration as Communist. I watched Steve Doocy interviewing Victoria Jackson and I thought it was an episode of Colbert or the Daily Show.
I get Fox News on my cable subscription and I find their Islamaphobic scare stories to be funny, if any one really took them seriously I would actually be worried. If a sizeable number of the population took it seriously, I have fears of a German 1930s view point but instead of being directed at Jews, it is directed at Muslims.
I also wonder whether those views result from the belief that the President is a "closet Muslim".
OK tv and the internet can exaggerate the impact of lunatic viewpoints. Fox, especially, has done much to enable the viewpoints of the far right in America - they have promote opinions that are unacceptable in other Countries, they appear mainstream Republican in the US.
I just really do not believe that the US, once considered a great Nation for ideas can propagate such levels of extremism and call them main stream.
When I watched the House debate passing of health care reform, which simply regulates a capitalist system and provide subsidies for more people to participate in, I really could not believe that any serious politician could really say it was a socialist take over of health care.
I kind of want to have faith in American politics and American intelligence, the Republican Party is destroying that.

What is considered "liberal" in the US is pretty right wing anywhere else. The so called centre of American politics is pretty much to the right of European politics. Angela Merkel was on e of the first to have a cash for bangers scheme, however no one outside of the US would call her socialist, never mind communist.

managed to throw the religious authoritarian right out of the UK Conservatives, (as measured in a UK value of the terms) which had repercussions across Europe. This Country with an established Church is far less accepting of religion in politics than America with its supposed separation of Church and State. The religious right has absolutely no hold in the UK or main land Europe. I just find it hard to believe that educated people can take their view points seriously.
Victoria Jackson and Sarah Palin remind me of a comedy characters and not those representing real view points.

She has also become a heroine of the Tea Party "movement". Again something that is looked on as "uniquely American" everywhere else. This should be a sketch show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWi182CMJY8

In fact the American right has no equivalent of Merkel at all. Someone who did actually grow up under authoritarian East German rule, but who has sensible policies and is not some God bothering Christian fundamentalist.
Contrast Merkel with Palin and you see a real example of class v crass.

that featured American fundamentalists visiting relatives in England - they were viewed as amusing idiots not to be confused with intelligent human beings, probably one reason why the Right really seems to hate European culture in any form.

This past January, I gave over my mini-farm to a young couple (very good deal for them). As they were both college graduates, atheists, wanta be homesteaders and seemingly responsible, I didn't concern myself with their politics or political activities. I check in on their blog once in awhile as they post going ons at the homestead. This is what I found yesterday... this written by a young woman of about 26:
"...I am so upset about this that words are just eluding me. I can’t even think of a good enough insult for that self-righteous bastard we call the leader of our country. I just can’t believe it passed. Even with all of the opposition. Even with all of the job losses and rampant financial woes this bill will cause… it passed. I have one word for this situation: Tyranny. This government is no longer something to be proud of. This country is no longer something to stand for. I now place myself unequivocally against the powers that be. Reason has escaped the political arena. Citizens are being disposessed of all of their basic rights and freedoms. This is not my USA anymore. This is a monster created by greed, avarice, and the most base of all human motives. How did such a great country fall so far so fast? Today is a sad day in history..."
I am at a loss as to how to even start to address the ignorance and the vile nature of this post. But I feel like I must say something to her.

41. Even if the Republicans are successful then |
|
that would not mean a re-emergence of their ideas (what ideas?). It is a "punishment" for the divisions in the Democratic Party (the Senate in particular), shown by how long it took to pass a health reform bill. Much of that will now die down (it finally passed) and the roots of recovery will be stronger, so a Republican victory is far from assured.

Any citizen who votes should take the time to find out if the person or party he supports are mentally or ethically challenged.
We will know if Americans prefer racist, violent, demagogues if they elect them. Where they are elected, we will know the stupidity quotient of the region.

44. It is impossible to underestimate the intelligence of the American people. |
|
It may be rooted in the slavery system, which was allowed to dumb-down the country's average intelligence into the middle of the 19th century, and we've been suffering the after-effects of it ever since. It's what happens when denial is institutionalized. Education and enlightenment become enemies of commerce and prosperity.
