20. I remember seeing them awhile back, but I was donating then too
Maybe they changed things so donating gets rid of them. I thought they just got rid of them altogether.

Or perhaps there's an option I'm not aware of.

21. Donating gets rid of them. They appeared when my donor star vanished...
Some of the ads are entertaining, though. The word 'liberal' must be a keyword, and it's got a different meaning here in Australia where it's the name of our RW conservative party, and a few weeks ago I was seeing ads for the Tasmanian Liberals appearing at DU. Tasmanian Liberals are not nice people...

2. After looking at the ads I was thinking of picking up a couple.
You never know when they'll come in handy.

But seriesly... it does seem like an odd place to advertise such things.

3. Actually I've been meaning to update my fleet, so a few new Boeing tankers might be just the ticket!

7. I agree. It is really offensive and I can't believe I'm saying that about a once
honorable company who went the war route.

23. Boeing didn't recently go a war route. They've been making military
aircraft for a very long time. Remember the B47 and B52? And those weren't the first.

8. Probably auto-purchased
Yeah, DUers wouldn't be buying them but might influence their representatives in Congress to do so. there's a lot of 'buy american' on DU so Boeing is trying to get public opinion on side for upcoming defense contracts.

13. The USAF is going to buy a new tanker.
McCain was one who was advocating buying Aerobus tankers to replace the currently used Boeing tankers. I remember seeing a blurb somewhere that the Russian manufacturer was also interested in bidding on the AF tanker. If national security is of high importance then foreign manufacturers should not even be considered as possible suppliers.

17. Broken clock moment, McCain was right on that one,
Edited on Mon Mar-29-10 01:09 AM by Sen. Walter Sobchak
Boeing should be permanently banned from the tanker competition for their criminal conduct, while Democrats and Republicans alike were lining up to blow Phil Condit, McCain was investigating severe criminal conduct by both Boeing and Airforce personnel on a contract that didn't even make financial sense. Why the fuck do you lease something your going to keep for fifty plus years?

Ignoring the fact Airbus won fair and square, the 767 Tanker is a lemon to begin with and Boeing needs to be harshly punished.

If Boeing can't deliver a handful of serviceable tankers to Italy and Japan, how the fuck are they going to cope with an order of this size. The KC-767 has also failed to win any subsequent orders to those of Japan and Italy owing to both abysmal program performance and the far superior KC-330 tanker.

14. Ahh, Boeing, that bastion of american industry
I saw this article from a while back that showed where the components for that dreamliner come from. Points out where our jobs went. 50 years ago all these components would have been american. Airbus probably would be made here, like Nissans. The tanker would probably be made up of pieces much like this. I don't think Boeing does much here anymore.

15. Where they the google adsense ads?
I never looked at all the ad sources to see if they use something else in addition to the adsense, but if it was adsense then it's likely the article/post/whatever you were reading when it came up was talking about the boeing tanker thing... Adsense (and other networks) show context sensitive ads. :)

Or sometimes previous searches you made.

It can be really interesting sometimes, as my wife used my computer to google a few things and when I took over I had lots of crazy female ads :)
