FDA hoodwinks public
From later in the article seems to tell the basic truth of the article...

The FDA appears to be subject to no law
This is how the FDA operates: Deceive the public by making them think the agency is listening to reason, then suddenly change the rules and leave the public out to dry. The agency operates as if it is subject to no law, rule or regulation of its own. It lies to the public, defends the profits of pharmaceutical companies, and ultimately operates with apparent legal immunity.(Sounds like the Texas Legislature.)

Bush's FDA scares me. Hell, his whole misadministration is a nightmare but natural health is my day job and everytime the repubs are in power it becomes a very bad dream that is unfortunately very real.

Here is the beginning of the official article

FDA hoodwinks public over CAM Guidelines comment period, slams door shut on public comments one month early
Tuesday, May 01, 2007 by: Mike Adams

The FDA has slammed the door shut on accepting public comments over its contentious "CAM Guidelines" that threaten to destroy natural medicine by classifying virtually all health-enhancing foods, juices, nutritional supplements and functional foods as "unapproved drugs." NewsTarget has acquired emails from an FDA employee and key author of the CAM Guidelines. This email contains statements that directly contradict the FDA's own website and reveal a tactic designed to silence public commentary by retroactively declaring the comment period to be closed even while the FDA's own documents state the period should continue for another 30 days.

Check it out yourself: The FDA website says the comment period ends May 29, 2007 (click here to see the screen capture). But in an email received today by NewsTarget, the FDA's Philip L. Chao claims "...the entry (for which you provided the link) was mistakenly changed by an employee in mid-April, and we will correct that error soon. Thus, internet media reports claiming that FDA has extended the comment period to May 29 are NOT correct."

Thus, the public comment period for CAM Guidelines is now closed, one month ahead of what the FDA's own website provides as the comment closing date. And this is explained as being due to a "mistake" by an FDA employee that will be retroactively corrected, only after the public comment period has been officially closed.

Covert tactics at the FDA
NewsTarget editors believe these actions on the part of the FDA are not merely accidental. They are deliberate, and they follow a pattern of deception that appears to be designed to sneak CAM Guidelines under the radar and avoid public scrutiny. Consider this:

1. This is criminal and I think a lawsuit should be filed on behalf of those of us that don't believe
in western medicine. By taking away all of the holistic means of treatment my rights are being severely infringed upon. I know I am not the only one who prefers holistic treatments instead of drugs.

I haven't been to a doctor in years. I eat right exercise take vitamins and I never get sick. If I did get sick I would have to be bleeding out of my eyes to trust an American doctor. It is my right to control my health any way I see fit.

I don't understand how this is legal. Is there a lawyer in the house?

3. So now we'll have to go to a doctor (and find one who
*believes* in nutritional supplements) to get a prescription for vitamins, vitamins which are strictly regulated so they don't include more than 100% of the supposed daily requirements. Or won't we even be able to do that?

I'm with you, I'd have to be pretty darned sure I was dying to go to a doctor who *practices* as in he's practicing on me!) medicine!

4. As long as doctors are motivated by money and kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies
they can't be trusted to do what's in my best interest. When was the last time a doctor said to you "Instead of taking this prescription drug why don't you try "insert herb here" that has been used for centuries to treat that." When was the last time a doctor on your "list" deemed acceptable by your insurance company knew anything personal about you, your life, your family? When was the last time they could remember your name without looking at a chart?

The doctors in this country work for corporations whose ONLY goal is to make money off your sickness.

5. Here's my example of "alternatives" vs quack (but accepted) "medicine"
Edited on Wed May-02-07 03:45 PM by truedelphi
In 1998 my body shut down.Just quit making red blood cells.

I was so anemic that only by my husband signing a statement that he would see that he hand fed me and hand dressed me each day, would my doctor NOT put me in a nursing home.

At first, colon cancer was suspected. But it turned out that according to my doctor, I had the worst cae of diverticulitis that he had ever seen.

He was planning on the recommended surgery on me - wherein the surgeon goes in and scrapes out all the pockets of diverticuli in my stomach and intestines.

But I was so weak that the surgery was put off "at least for several more months while your strength rebuilds"

It hurt to eat so much that all I could do was sip water.
Meanwhile Mark found a book on alternative medicine. He didn't notice the chapter on diverticulitis. But he saw a chapter on a skin problem I had so he bought the book.

Being home all day and to weak to do anything other than read, I found the chapter on diverticulitis. It said you could cure diverticulitis by taking acidophilus.

We spent $ 14 on a bottle of acidophilus (Jarrow brand) . I did twice the recommended dose.

Within three days I felt better. Within five days I was eating normally. Within three weeks I was no longer bed ridden and housebound. However I continued to take the acidophilus for another six months. Total cost? ABout eight times $ 14 or $ 112.

I have since found out that a significant percentage of people who have the surgery end up with colostomy bags for the REST OF THEIR LIVES! (Imagine that inconvenience and expense!) And after the surgery, the diverticuli often come back.

My doctor was totally unimpressed. He merely sniffed at me that he was glad I was better. I have gone on to tell my elderly patients (I do private duty nurse assistance work) about the acidophilus. With their doctors' permission they take it and none of them have ever had diverticulitis (It seems to occur with advanced age.)

6. Good for you!
:applause:

Many people accept their doctor's surgical recommendations without a second thought. How fortunate that you weren't physically ready for surgery, thereby giving you the opportunity for some self-education.

I'm glad you could avoid the scalpel, and I hope your anemia improved.

8. I was on serious antibiotics for 9 months due to Lyme disease
Edited on Wed May-02-07 04:17 PM by I_Make_Mistakes
and had serious diarrhea (symptom of the antibiotic). I was told by others in a Lyme Support group to take acidophilus, and it took 3 weeks but it worked.

The MD said that there was no provable evidence that acidophilus migrated beyond the stomach, well, it worked, so I didn't need his proof. I used the GNC strawberry chewable flavor, which was recommended by the parent of a child, I gag pretty easily, so it was easy to take.

I think acidophilus is a good supplement for many intestinal problems.
edit to correct spelling

10. Yogurt with active cultures work well too
Edited on Wed May-02-07 04:18 PM by formercia
they will probably be banned as well. It's all about giving Big Pharma a lock on health care. Pay them or die.

Consumer Reports tested various brands and the Dannon Activia survived passage the best. My personal observations, having tried different brands, agree with their results. I make my own Yogurt using the Dannon Activia and Danactive cultures as a starter and save a lot of money.

12. FDA approved Vioxx
Kevin Trudeau tells it like it really.

Yet, FDA is against Vit, mins, herbs, anything that the drug companies do not own and can patent.

Read Kevin Trudeau, FDA & Bush do not want to to buy his books, nor any other book that does not prescrib drugs & surgery! Compare, how many have died from prescription drugs and how many have died from vit C? Etc.
