Wesley Clark Endorses Cunningham (NC's Senate primary)
http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/eyeon2010/2010/03/nc-clark-endorses-cunningham.html

Former N.A.T.O. Supreme Allied Commander and 2004 Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark on Monday is endorsing Cal Cunningham in North Carolina's Democratic U.S. Senate primary.

Monday's endorsement, which also came with a fundraising appeal two days before the first quarter Federal Election Commission deadline, is the latest example of how the national party is lining up behind the former state legislator in its effort to knock off Sen. Richard Burr (R).

Cunningham, an attorney and captain in the U.S. Army Reserves who served a one-year tour as a military prosecutor in Iraq in 2008, was recruited heavily by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee even though Secretary of State Elaine Marshall (D) was already in the race.

"Cal would be the first veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to serve in the U.S. Senate," Clark said in his endorsement Monday. "He would bring a veteran's unique perspective to policymaking in Washington."

"Cal knows sexual orientation plays no role on the battlefield, and that it's time to end 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,'" Clark said.

2. If he will work to end DADT and Wesley Clark endorses him, that sounds mighty good to me.

3. I think all the contenders in the D Senate primary support equal rights
Cal Cunningham, unfortunately, has only won one election: he served a single term in the General Assembly for the 23rd Senate district. I'll support him if he wins the primary, but I think Elaine Marshall, who has won several state-wide elections, is a better candidate to take on Burr

... there has been a genuine interest by Marshall and her rival Democrats (including Cal Cunningham and Ken Lewis in courting the LGBT vote. And not just behind closed doors or fundraising campaigns, but by clearly and publicly discussing positions on the issues.

For the LGBT community and our fight for civil rights at the federal level, this is a significant development with Senate control in the balance -- North Carolina is definitely fighting ground for moving a progressive agenda forward. With an Obama win here in NC, the state has been trending Blue for some time now, with more of the state's population living in urban and suburban areas than rural ones, and the many transplants to the area are solid Democrats, along with the large minority population activated with the last election. My city, Durham, is in fact a majority minority city, and any serious candidate for the U.S. Senate has to win here. Overall, the Triangle is a critical area to cultivate solid support. The primary here is on May 4, so they are almost on the home stretch -- and each Dem wants our vote.

From Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT), the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) to the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and issues about U.S. policy and human rights abroad, Marshall is ready to take your questions. Her campaign web site addresses a couple right off the bat ...
