U.S. wants Canada to remain in Afghanistan
U.S. wants Canada to remain in Afghanistan
By Rob Gillies - The Associated Press
Posted : Monday Mar 29, 2010 20:49:17 EDT

OTTAWA —Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday the U.S. would like Canada to remain in Afghanistan past 2011 and suggested the military could switch to a training role.

Canada’s Parliament has mandated that the military mission in Kandahar end in 2011. Canada has about 2,900 troops there.

Clinton told CTV News on Monday that the U.S. would like Canada to keep some of its troops in Afghanistan.

“We would obviously like to see some form of support continue,” Clinton said. “The military could switch more into a training role instead of a combat role, a logistics support role instead of the front-line combat.”

Catherine Loubier, a spokeswoman for Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon, said that although Canada’s military mission will end in 2011, officials are examining Canada’s possible nonmilitary role after that.

media reports. Our 141 so far dead, sent to the most dangerous deployment from the beginning at Kandahar. apparently were of no value.

I have a cousin there for the second time, maybe he needs to wear a U.S. or British uniform to be noticed if he's hurt, God forbid.
Someone on here said 'Canada has no army, to speak of'. Well .............. seems we do, and they're dying for that pipeline. We have our own oil and gas, we don't need to stay and fight for anyone else's.

STOP these brainless wars.

8. Most Canadians want troops home from Afghanistan: poll

Normally I don't give much credence to polls, but most people I've talked to, including family of members in the military in my own family think staying is bullshit. Of course we have Harper, the leftover Bush ghost.

7. We said no to Iraq, freeing up all in that coalition to invade there,
we believed the hype right after 9/11 Afghanistan was reponsible for it. How stupid and naive.

3. Canada has paid a heavy price,already.
The US wants 500-600 troops to remain for training the Afghans. As someone said last night on the news,if you're in Afghanistan training, you're fighting.
