Here's a surprise
Bloomberg News
Report: Iraq war spawns turmoil

The U.S. invasion of Iraq has fed Islamic extremism and destabilized Iraq's neighbors, according to a State Department report on trends in terrorism.

International intervention in Iraq "has been used by terrorists as a rallying cry for radicalization and extremist activity that has contributed to instability in neighboring countries," the report said.

1. Mission Accomplished
What is frustrating is that all the people who cheered this invasion on in the media and in politics are seen as sensible, while those who predicted exactly what would happen are seen, largely, as fringe nutjobs.

2. Guess I'm one of those fringe nut-jobs...
Those of us that knew this was going to happen were called everything from losers to traitors.

Sun Tzu said it best: "First, know your enemy." These guys had no comprehension of the area and it's politics, so they figured this would be a "cakewalk". Just like Napoleon and Hitler later, when they invaded Russia, they had no idea that the Russians would just move everything back until they could overwhelm the opposition.

With this situation, for every person killed, a family rises up in anger willing to give it's sons to "the cause". These people don't forget, they hold grudges for eons. Some are still killing off others because some unknown aunt 400 years ago was insulted by someone they never knew or have any inkling why. Maybe said aunt was ugly, and someone mentioned that, for generations, people are killed for an issue that died long ago.

Makes the Hatfields and McCoys look like a dinner party...:eyes:

7. There's nothing I could say to you that wouldn't be interpreted as
an insult. Apparently.
