OMAHA INSURANCE AGENT JAILED FOR KIDNAPPING ESSEX IA CUSTOMER

(Essex) -- The kidnapping story from Essex is a case of preying on the elderly, according Essex Police Chief Mike Anderson. An Essex man in his 70's was kidnapped for a short time Thursday morning at 8:00 by an Omaha insurance agent who had sold him a policy last fall.

Forty-one-year-old Mark Edward Rose is charged with 3rd degree kidnapping, extortion, burglary, and 5th degree theft.

The police chief tells KMA News that Rose entered the Essex man's home and wielded a handgun. Rose threatened to harm the unnamed resident unless he gave him money. Rose forced the man to drive to Bank Iowa in Shenandoah. Upon entering the bank, the Essex man advised bank employees what was happening. Shenandoah Police were then called and dispatched to the bank, but Rose had fled on foot.

Police contacted the insurance company, Rose's boss in turn contacted Rose -- then the kidnapper called the police to, "...see what the problem was."

Rose stated that he would like to get the situation straightened out, so on Friday afternoon around 4:00 he met Anderson at the Shenandoah Police Station and admitted to the entire story. Rose was placed in the Page County Jail with a $20,300 bond.

Anderson is not disclosing the man's motive. He says in 22 years of police work, he's never seen anything like this and calls the story, "...one for TV, that's for sure."
