Now THIS is a fine example of a real Texan |
|
Gene Green, who was my congress critter when I lived in town and who is a damned fine example of a non-corporate Democrat, was on our right-wing "news" station this morning. The DJs there were probably holding their noses when interviewing him about receiving threats and hatewads due to his yea vote on health care.
Apparently, Gene received some threatening emails, and rather than call the police, he called the senders on the phone and talked to them about their concerns with the bill and about Gene's concerns about the fact that threats on someone's life are illegal. He went on to say that all of the spewers ended up apologizing and agreeing to disagree and continue the discussion in a productive, civil manner. Of course, the words proof and pudding come to mind when it comes to RW promises.
I perceived that the RW deejays were disappointed that Gene hadn't made a bigger deal out of it (they just love that teabagger drama). I also perceive that, in fact, rationality can prevail, so long as we don't lower ourselves to teabagger level.

I can't say I know that much about Gene Green but your story certainly made me more interested in him.
Good for him!

4. I've got a great one too - good solid Texan - Lloyd Doggett |

I'm going to keep him. I was exiled from him for a bit while the Texas Rs screwed up Texas with their gerrymandering.
I am not looking forward to the fight in 2011 over those district lines again. :grr:
