A simple way to turn the entire country Blue |
|
Would this work?
Several blue state Governors in the same region could get together and uniformly decide to: 1) Provide universal health care for every resident 2) Triple the funds directed towards education 3) Provide free college tuition for instate residents 4) Allow gay marriage 5) Make sure every resident is employed
In the beginning it would be rough, but in 10 years, the deficits would turn into surpluses because the state would be full of healthy, well educated people. Pretty soon, everyone in America would be trying to relocate into those states. A waiting list could be put in place. Every American would begin to demand similar changes in their own state, and the only way to do it would be by electing a Democrat.

how will you pay for it? deficits for 10 years?
many states don't even collect income tax, and half of federal income taxes go to maintenance of the war machine.

3. Of course it would work. |
|
The last one ALONE would work.
Now tell people how they're supposed to actually accomplish that miraculous list and you might be getting somewhere. Otherwise you might as well have said giving everyone a solid gold life sized statue of themselves would turn the country blue. Sure it would... good luck doing it.
And no, you can't just say "in 10 years deficits turn into surpluses". That doesn't just happen. The fact that you like a policy doesn't mean it pays for itself, we get enough of that kind of ridiculous fantasy thinking from Republicans with their tax cut claims, we do not need to go there too.

4. Well, they can do some of that, but the states really can't afford most of that. |
|
There is also the political will, most blue governor's have to contend with goppers in the legislature. But your suggestions have merit. A health care public option and a break on tuition are doable, but we would have to wait for the economy to improve. Most states are cutting things like crazy. Then they would have to figure out a revenue stream. But you have to have a vision before you can implement change.

It worked for the ancient britons, and they invented socialism. And human sacrifice, of course, but we don't have to go there.
