We did not get a census form. Anyone else?
The news reported 120 million forms were mailed out March 15th and are due back tomorrow.

NO form showed up here. None of my neighbors got one either.

Since the Census taking is now privatized, it makes me wonder..........

6. It would be interesting to see how many here did not get one.
I have reading about snafus in addresses, mis-mailings.

come to think of it, I was here 10 years ago and did not get one then either.
Hm...maybe we are Too small of a town.

or...the same Post Office that eats my Netflix movies is eating the forms. That could be it.

8. The Census is NOT privatized. I keep hearing that but it is not true...
the Post Office has lost some of them, and they rarely have the mailing addresses of people who use PO boxes. Rural delivery can also be a problem, as are mismatched addresses.

I work for another part of the Census Bureau and constantly see houses with the wrong numbers on them. I also see towns redoing addresses, usully to make it easier to respond to 911 calls.

Some areas, like my town, are not getting mailed forms, since 2/3 of the units here are summer homes and half the full-time residents use PO boxes. Some neighbohoods don't get mail delivery at all and have to use PO boxes.

9. Our local parks have supplemental forms. Check with your parks department or city offices.

Sounds like a big batch got lost if that was the case. Or you may live an area that theyve targeted for hand delivery.

10. If you did not receive your census form, you may call in:
What if I don't receive the form?

If you did not receive a form, call the Telephone Questionnaire Assistance center at 1-866-872-6868. (If you prefer a Spanish-speaking operator, then dial 1-866-928-2010.) The lines will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (your local time) seven days a week from February 25, 2010 through July 30, 2010. For the hearing-impaired, TDD 1-866-783-2010 (during the times noted above).

Is there another way to get the form other than the mail?

Be Counted forms are census forms that are available at various community locations for use by people who either did not receive a form in the mail or whose information was not collected on any other form. Be Counted forms are available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Russian. These forms can be picked up in various community locations and mailed back in the attached postage-paid envelope.

15. Took about a week to get to my place
then I hung onto it for a few days, until I got the letter nagging me to fill it out & send it back in. Took less than 5 minutes for me.

I don't know what's got the freepers tied up in knots about it, though. All they want to know is how many people live in your house/apartment, their DOBs, & their race/ethnicity. No nosy "none of your damn business" questions like one census I filled out that wanted to know how much rent I paid if I lived in an apartment or how much my home was worth, if I lived in a house. :wtf: did those questions have to do with deciding how many representatives my state has?

29. They'll have someone call you and offer to help fill it out
This is what the census takers are being hired to do. First they have to tally up the responses and then they will call you to help out. They're not out to punish anyone. They really want the information. You'd be surprised how many organizations and statistics users rely on the Census to get the large and small pictures of demographics, population growths, population shifts and racial data. Statisticians use the data gathered all the time.

22. No. We did not get a census form either.
I just assumed it was because we are about the only openly Dem household in town and nobody gives a shit what we think anyway.

Actually all joking aside, aren't they doing those in "waves" or installments? I'm not sure where I got this from, but I have in the back of my mind that I saw someplace that the plan was to stagger sending those out so that the postal service was not buried by an avalanche of paper. Maybe I'm just making that up, but I could swear I saw that someplace or other in a discussion about the census...

31. Aha !
THAT might explain it.

"the Census Bureau is going to have to send an additional 1.6 million to addresses it missed the first time.

""The Census Bureau will try to send forms to some of the added addresses in its second mailing, which starts this week. The rest will have to wait until the middle of summer, when forms will be hand-delivered."

Notice the word "try".

My neighbors, turns out, got their letters and census forms.
but our house is missed a lot, we are at end of long driveway.
Still, the postman does manage to put bills in the mailbox which is on the street end of the driveway.

An additional 1.6 million it missed the first time, eh?
So, I am in a minority now?

Thanks for the link...I hate unsolved mysteries.

33. For anyone who doesn't get mail home delivered:
Check with your local town offices for the forms. We hadn't received our form either but we also don't receive home delivery of mail due to our village size and postal regulations. The census won't send to PO boxes, only physical addresses. Our post office returned the forms to the census.

I read this morning that this is happening to small villages not only in my state but across the country.

They do say that census workers will come in and visit each residence.
