1. Well, we will eventually need the oil, and not necessarily for gasoline. |
|
I'm waiting to hear what the Pres says about this, but initially I'm glad that the Democrats will be controlling and regulating this practice instead of the drill-baby-drill Repukes who don't give a crap about the environment.

3. Because it's the "RIGHT" thing to do. |
|
Corporate subsidies for "health" care. Union busting and public school closings for education. Now, drill baby drill. Tax increases for the middle class and cuts for the rich just before 2012 wouldn't surprise me a bit at this point.

4. Because oil is still there |
|
And because we live in an economic system, and not an ecosystem. Although that would work with renewable energy too, not just oil.
I know that an economic system can only exist within an ecosystem, but try winning an election with that.

5. And an insignificant amount of oil too... |
|
We're the scary looking street prostitute thinking only about today's fix and not about tomorrow.
Literally, any oil we pull out of these sites satisfies less than day of our terminal oil addiction.
So long as we've got this nasty oil habit we may as have a body bag ready for our economy. It's just one bad trick or abscess away from collapse.

6. Past tense- Already "faltered" |
|
The shellfish and finfish fisheries are beyond recovery now, unless we stopped all fishing and discharging of pollutants into the ocean NOW!
We know that's not going to happen, so we might as well drill it, it's screwed already. No one would listen 30 40 years ago, so it's too late now.

11. Ironically that post is made from a computer that requires oil to produce |
|
and the message than goes through a series of wires, switches, routers and fiber optics which all require oil as does much of the power for the computers and the internet network. A question that answers itself.
As was mentioned else where I am happy that the Dems will oversee this delicate operation rather than the reckless republicans.
