4. It's going to be far offshore, far enough you'll only be able to see
hazy outlines on the horizon on the clearest days. I sincerely doubt it's going to be the horror show it's been in other countries, too many seriously wealthy people don't want their sea views fucked up.

In any case, it's not going to happen soon. Offshore drilling equipment is booked solid for the next five years and slated for oil fields far offshore.

I see this more as a political action, taking another of the far right's talking points away from them than as any sort of practical action that will destroy wetlands and befoul resort areas.

I can remember the days the the San Francisco bay was so stinky and polluted that you had to roll up the window on the car while driving over the Bay Bridge. *pew* - it sure stunk to high heavens. Finally, after years of work this is no longer the case. I guess we'll be back to that again soon! :+ :puke:

And by the way, we don't get to keep the oil here, it just goes on the world market.

16. Calm down!!!
the rethugs see it as a trap... President Obama taking away their talking points.

I must say I agree.
Remember that before any drilling can occur there must be environmental impact statements. proven oil reserves. and the price must be high enough to make the investment worth while...

not to mention all the acreage the Oil companies have permits for, yet do not drill upon presently.

I am not angry nor scared. In fact I am proud of President Obama for out maneuvering the right...

In fact I would actually advise US to be prepared for more "concessions" like this. Not that they would actually take effect or any drilling to actually occur. It is just a matter of record the rethugs are being dismantled.

Just like President Obama encouraging the rethugs to run on Repealing the Health care bill. they will disenfranchise voters by being the party of no. as well as just think how difficult it would be to run against The president when he "agrees" with your original position?

another rope-a-dope is what I see here.

55. Once it is open it is impossible to close. Your rationale is not sound
That is a nice talking point that I see many here are getting from OFA, but it is quite frankly bullshit. Once it is open you are never able to close it again. This is a loss period for the environment and for sound policy and especially for the future of our children.

All it takes is ONE mistake, one incident to completely fuck up an ecosystem for a decade or more. Even a minor screw-up can have serious repercussions -- I have personally seen the results of such mistakes here in the San Francisco Bay area.

Any continued dependece on oil for our future will leave us as extince as the dinos we are drilling for.
